Office hours [all day]

Anakin opened his office door.

And stared.

Someone had redecorated.

Anakin stomped around the office examining streamers on the ceiling and paint on the wall, then the glitter-bestrewned Farrah Fawcett poster, and finally flounced over to sit in his chair.

With its pink boa.

He waved a hand and started up his little galaxy of stars, then picked up a pen that had been decorated with feathers--all of his pens had been decorated with feathers, what the hell?--and hoped no one visited today.

Though that didn't seem very likely.

Anakin's hand twitched in an effort not to reach out for her.

"You'll find him," he said, trying to be reassuring. "Have you ever not gotten something you want this badly?"

Rory burst out laughing.

The irony of him asking that was too much.

Rory got herself under control and replied, "Um, yes, there has been an instance or two where I didn't get something I really wanted."

"This won't be one of them," Anakin said. "I have a feeling about it."

She smiled. "I trust your feelings. Luke made me sleep last night. I think that's hereditary."

"Did he?" Anakin smiled. "I'm glad."

Something occurred to him. "He stayed over?" Cue the weird twisting feeling in his stomach.

"He's practically living there, what with me being sick and him worrying and him dragging me out of Caritas and whatnot," Rory said obliviously.

"Oh," he said in a small little voice, then pasted on his best I'm Totally Okay With This smile.

Anakin was certainly not going to tell her about this unreasonable and petty jealousy.

"No reason," he said. "Drink your coffee."

"You're bossier than I am," she replied, raising her brows and drinking. "Have you done anything interesting recently?"

"Yes," Anakin said with a nod. "I went completely insane and decorated my office."

He gave her a penetrating look. "No, that was someone else."

Rory smiled innocently. "I like what they did with your chair."

"I was thinking of keeping it this way," Anakin deadpanned. "Pink being my color and all."

"You could use a little color in your life, Anakin," she said, raising a brow. "That much hasn't changed."

"I like my clothes black and my coffee unsweetened," Anakin said, shifting his shoulders. "Some things don't change." He took a sip from his mug. "Rose made me try some horrifyingly sweet frappasomething last night at the Perk. Ew."

"Rose?" Rory asked, the hair on the back of her neck standing up.

Anakin nodded. "Rose Tyler," he said, "no relation to Jaye. She's another teacher here." He smiled. "She's a lot of fun. I'm teaching her how to fly."

"You are?" Rory asked, feeling a little sick. "Oh. Wasn't she a student here before, too?"

"Yes, but not in a time-traveling way. She's a different version along the timeline," he said. He tilted his head to look at Rory. "Are you feeling all right?"

"Dandy," she said, staring down at her cup. "Is she your age, then? Your physical age, I mean."

"I think so, or close enough," Anakin said. "We haven't exactly discussed it."

"Seems awful important to you to be just skipped over," she told her coffee.

Anakin sighed. "We're not running off together," he said. "We're having coffee."

That wasn't going to exactly endear him to the one who introduced him to coffee.
