Anakin's office [early Monday morning, before classes]

Anakin, who had been running on the power of coffee for the last week, hadn't stopped watching the Games since the last shipment of bread had been delivered. There had been interviews with the survivors' families: Anakin was looking only to see Katniss's sister and to check that she still had all of her fingers attached.

He rubbed at his eyes blearily as the games began again, steeling himself for another day of devious, horrifying death. They were down to eight. Things were going to get even uglier.

Jaina had commed out early last night because she had to, and by the time she called again, she was traveling again. (If Zekk hadn't known how important this was to her before, he got the point when she let him set their course and fly to call.) It also meant she was running on no sleep still, but she'd be shocked if anyone wasn't.

Once again, Wesley had spent the night, and he was entering an increasing state of panic with every moment that passed. And no, he still hadn't slept, although he'd stolen brief naps while other tributes were receiving camera attention here and there.

Gabrielle had, again, spent the night bent over her scrolls -- not sleeping, just dozing for a few minutes at a time when the words weren't coming to her easily enough and frustration set in.

She looked haggard and miserable and ink-stained, like she couldn't handle any more of this -- but she wasn't going anywhere.

Ghanima had been going back to her suite at the hotel, for tea and meditation, and to check on Alice. She would be able to function without sleep as long as needed, but the space away from the images of wanton, wasteful death was appreciated.

When she returned today, it was with hot, steaming fresh buns from JGoB and one of her special calming teas. She had a feeling that both would be appreciated today.

Karla hadn't even pretended to sleep, she'd stayed glued to the screen all night. She'd tried to eat a little the night before, but it had sat like a lump in her gut.

Another day for tea then.

Warren hadn't left last night. He hadn't had it in him to drag his way back to the dorms, and he didn't want to miss anything, anyway. So, tired and even more ruffled than yesterday, he was making headway, halfheartedly, through a cup of tea that he'd gotten from somebody or other.

It was probably even good tea, too.

Bod hadn't stayed but he was back again early, looking fairly well rested after a forced night of sleep. He knew he wouldn't be as focused or sharp if he hadn't rested so he'd made himself.

He was drinking water again and mentally preparing himself for another day of this.

Zoe had made sure to go home last night, needing to put some distance between herself and what was happening in order to calm down. She brought coffee with her this morning, for anyone who needed an extra jolt. It was difficult to imagine anyone falling asleep watching the Games, but she figured a little extra caffeine couldn't hurt.

Hunt when hungry, sleep when not, for hunger always returns, the saying went. And yet last night Firekeeper and Blind Seer had done neither, save for a few minutes here or there when one of them had let their eyes drift closed from exhaustion- only to be awoken shortly by a nip or a poke from the other.

The return of those who'd spent the night elsewhere had both wolves roused to full attention, peering at the screen anxiously to await any new developments.

Sometime in the middle of the night, Alex had once more forced herself to go home, take a long shower, and at least lie down in her bed for one hour.

She didn't sleep. She only kept seeing visions of the nightmares from the arena. But lying in a darkened, quiet room could sometimes at least give you a hint of rest, if not much.

She watched the digits on her clock and switched off the alarm before it had a chance to go off. When she hauled herself out of bed, she was sure she looked as haggard as she felt. She was equally sure she didn't care.

A few cups of tea later, and she was at least presentable. Fresh clothes and toast helped. And then, back to Anakin's office, to check on the children.

As soon as Katniss suggested breaking off, Jaina started to shake her head. That quickly turned to nodding when Peeta told her to wait. The way she figured, if they still had others outside their alliance to worry about, they'd stand a higher chance of getting attacked again if it was just the two of them. Pick off the others first, then break off and it'd be everyone for themselves.

Jaina really didn't like thinking this way.

For three days, Jaina had watched, not really feeling much of anything in regards to all the violence except anger that by day two had dampened as she got more used to things.

So the fact that Johanna did that, especially when Jaina had been thinking that maybe there was more to this girl and that she could be trusted somehow, startled her more than anything else. And when Katniss started moving again and got up, Jaina's sense of relief was mixed with wondering why she'd been left alive and suddenly feeling like things were going to go very wrong.

Ghanima's smile was bright, and just slightly vicious the moment Katniss dropped her bow, understanding lighting up her face. "Oh you bright, wonderful, clever girl," she breathed quietly, watching the girl reach for the wire. "You can do it."

Wesley watched, every nerve in his body on edge as he held his breath and waited for what would happen. And he saw it.

And everything came crashing down.

It started as a low, rumbling growl in Blind Seer's throat as they showed Katniss's body, silent and still. When they started to airlift her out, he threw back his head and let out a howl of mourning.

Firekeeper, on the other hand, was silent, her fists clenched in Blind Seer's fur as she watched.

For a long time, Wesley couldn't even imagine leaving. His limbs felt numb and he wanted to disappear.
