The dull pounding ache in Anakin's head had bloomed into a full-on piercing nightmare of a headache sometime around 3 am, when all truly rotten things happen.

And Jedi don't get fevers.

Which was why Anakin was sitting cross-legged in the center of his office, delving deeply into the Force to get both symptoms to go away. It wasn't working nearly as well as it should have, and the amount of energy he was using was practically a beacon to the other Jedi on the island.

The door was cracked open.

"What is your problem?" Anakin demanded, barely keeping himself from reaching up to cradle his head. "The door was open."

River felt the need to get an elaboration on the topic of last week's class. She didn't expect Anakin not to be well however. Stopping in the doorway she smiled. "Hello."

She tilted her head, frowning a little as she entered the room, because a pasted on smile wasn't quite the same as a real one. "Busy?"

"I was meditating," Anakin said, reaching for a bottle of water. "Nothing that can't wait. Sit down and join me."

She sat down on the floor, crosslegged, giving him a curious and not quite convinced look, but said: "Was thinking about the class last week."

At least Jaina was really pretty sure she knew why she kept getting that niggling bad feeling, between the general sense of things, the radio, and now the vibes her grandfather was sending out. So it was still pretty early when she made her way to his office to knock on the door.

She paused mid-knock, wondering if this was such a good idea after all. Which didn't stop her, of course. "Just me."

Qui-Gon had not been able to shake the bad feeling he'd had since last Thursday and so decided to talk to Anakin about it.

"Master Anakin?" he asked, then trailed off as he noticed the amount of Force energy pouring off the other Jedi. "Are you all right?"

"I'm fine," Anakin spat. "What is with everyone today?"

He peered suspiciously up at Qui-Gon. "Did Luke send you here?"

"That would be telling," Qui-Gon said after a split second's thought.

"I'm not going to the clinic," Anakin said. "Because Jedi don't get sick. And even if they do--and I don't--the clinic doesn't have a bacta tank, so there's nothing they can do for me that I can't do for myself."

He closed his eyes again and ignored the sweat beading on his forehead. "I'm just not concentrating hard enough."

Because a lack of focus was clearly Anakin's problem.

"Try not," Anakin recited snippily. "I'm practicing a healing meditation."

Luke looked stung. "That's fine," he said. "I was just checking to be sure you weren't trying to realign the moon or something: you're using a lot energy."
