The dull pounding ache in Anakin's head had bloomed into a full-on piercing nightmare of a headache sometime around 3 am, when all truly rotten things happen.

And Jedi don't get fevers.

Which was why Anakin was sitting cross-legged in the center of his office, delving deeply into the Force to get both symptoms to go away. It wasn't working nearly as well as it should have, and the amount of energy he was using was practically a beacon to the other Jedi on the island.

The door was cracked open.

"I know my limits." Sometimes.

Anakin raised an eyebrow. "Uh-huh."

"It's besides the point anyway, because I'm not the sick one," she pointed out.

"I'm not either," Anakin said as his Force-sense spiked with pain from the headache.

His outward expression didn't change.

Stubborn, stubborn man.

She had to give him credit, he was probably even worse than Mara. "Even I felt that," she said. "Just go to the clinic. I'll even go with you, if you'd like."

"The clinic doesn't even have a bacta tank," Anakin said. "I'm better with meditation."

"Mara didn't want to see anyone at first when she got sick," she told him. ust in case reverse psychology worked.

"Mara was sick?"

Because Anakin could be a much better sick person than Mara, dammit.

"For almost a year. She's the only one to survive the outbreak," Jaina said, not sure if she was helping or hurting her case by telling him that.

"Have you told me about this before?" Anakin asked.

The pounding in his head was making it hard to concentrate.

"A while back," Jaina said. "Look, can you just go get checked out? Even if you don't stay. Just do it to shut me up."

"How'd she fight back?" he asked instead.

She was reluctant to answer him in case he used that as a reason not to go, but she couldn't exactly not tell him something that might help, either. "She was able to sort of attack it back, using the Force. I repeat, she had about a year to get this down."

"Cell by cell, you mean?" Anakin said, already exhausted by the idea. "Because casting a wider net isn't working worth a pile of month-old bantha poo-doo."

Someone was getting a little frustrated.

She nodded. "Maybe that should be a sign."

"Maybe you should stop pushing this," Anakin retorted ~~whinily~~ sharply.

"Maybe you should think about listening," she snapped back. Pot, meet kettle. "Is there anything I can say that will make you go?"

"No," Anakin decided. "I'm not sick."

When her first instinct was to make that frustrated groan sound of teenagers everywhere and/or stomp a foot, Jaina thought maybe it was time to leave. "Fine," she said. "I'll be at the clinic, trying to help the people that actually need it."

And was already planning on finding him later to check up.
