The dull pounding ache in Anakin's head had bloomed into a full-on piercing nightmare of a headache sometime around 3 am, when all truly rotten things happen.

And Jedi don't get fevers.

Which was why Anakin was sitting cross-legged in the center of his office, delving deeply into the Force to get both symptoms to go away. It wasn't working nearly as well as it should have, and the amount of energy he was using was practically a beacon to the other Jedi on the island.

The door was cracked open.

Qui-Gon was feeling very much in sympathy with Master Yoda at the moment. Which actually... "Would it help if I went and got a stick to hit your legs with?"

Anakin glared at him. "It depends," he retorted. "Would you like to be hit about the head and shoulders with it?"

He hissed in a breath as a wave of pain slammed through his head like a knife.

Qui-Gon crossed his arms over his chest. "I'm not the one who's trying to prove that Jedi are just as much idiots as the rest of the universe."

"Star's end!" Anakin exploded. "Force protect me from ridiculous teenaged Padawans. Fine, fine, I'll go."

"Now?" Qui-Gon said, not backing down. If there was one thing he had learned from Master Dooku, it was all about the loophole.

"I have to make sure someone's taking care of my vampire puppy," Anakin said, then held up a threatening finger. "If you laugh, I swear I'll just live in this office forever."

"And if you do that, who will look after your puppy?" Qui-Gon countered.

"I'll go get him!" Anakin roared.

Ow. Yelling bad now. Yelling very, very bad.

"You're not really controlling your emotions very well right now," Qui-Gon observed. "A sign you're not operating at your best, that perhaps you're sick. As for the puppy, I'll be more than happy to look in on him or ask someone else to if you'd rather."

"Luke'll do it," Anakin decided, biting his lip to hold in a small whimper of pain. "He and Vladdie are old friends. I'll go home, feed the dog and go right to the clinic. I promise."

"How about you go right to the clinic and I go right to find Luke and have him feed the dog?" Qui-Gon countered.

"Fine," Anakin said with an unhappy sigh. "I'm going. But only to prove you wrong."
