Anakin was going to wear a path across his floor if he kept up his pacing.

And the sun wasn't going to set any faster, no matter how many times he checked out the window.

...why yes, Anakin was taking the news on the radio as a personal insult.

His friendship alpha-male off rivalry thing with Angel had always been...complicated. And his hatred for Angelus had never really gone away. Angelus'd nearly killed Rory, after all. Anakin wasn't the kind to just let that sort of thing go.

You know, ever.

So pacing. He figured it was a step up from lifting every rock on the island to figure out which one Angelus had slithered under.

The door was open.

John had spent a significant amount of time working on the most boring summaries known to man over the last couple of days. He thought that maybe if he showed initiative to turn in his work, he'd earn points towards not dying during the final Thursday.

He stopped in the doorway, "'Morning, Professor."

Anakin barely paused. "Sheppard," he said, nodding.

John ignored the pacing and moved to take a seat. "I brought those summaries for you."

"Excellent," Anakin said. "What did you learn?"

Other than what a petty bastard Anakin was, of course.

"That you have a lot of really boring stuff to torment me with," John replied.

River didn't have a particular reason to stop by, but then she felt she didn't really need one. She stopped on the threshold.

"Pacing helps?"

"A little," Anakin admitted, with a very small smile. "Hello."

River entered and took a seat on a chair, leaning one arm on the backrest. "What's bothering you?"

"An unwelcome presence on the island," he said tightly. "Do me a favor and don't go out alone at night for a while?"

She could defend herself, and she knew Anakin knew that, so River raised an eyebrow. She nodded however.

Rory got out of her penultimate final, and figured that she could take a little bit of a break. Hence, time to call Anakin and let him know she was alive.

Anakin practically leaped across the room to answer the phone. "Hey, you."

"One more," Rory sighed. "One more final, and then I'm done. I'm done, and you should come up here after you teach and we'll spend all weekend all warm in bed and cozy. Mom invited you for Christmas, too. Luke if he wants to come, too. He can even bring Jo if she's not going home or something."

Anakin cradled the comlink close and closed his eyes, making the decision to delay telling her for as long as possible. "We'd love to come," he said. "I'll have Luke check with Jo. Have you been eating real food?"

"Marty fed me last night," she promised. "I'm taking a break now but soon it'll be back to the library."

At some point in the afternoon, Veronica knocked on the doorframe to Anakin's office. She hadn't seen him in well over a year, since before he died and then showed back up.

But with Angelus on the loose, she wanted to stop by and talk to the one person on the island who might have a chance of taking him down non-lethally.

Anakin paused in mid-pacing. "Veronica?"

"Hi," Veronica said, attempting to muster a weak smile. "Are you busy?"

"Not until sunset," Anakin said. "Welcome back."

He didn't invite her in. He knew she'd understand why.

"I wish I could say it was good to be back," Veronica said, crossing the threshold into his office and looking for a chair. "Under the circumstances though? Not so much."

Jaina leaned in the doorway, holding her comlink up, and said, "You know it's rare, if ever, that I don't wear my lightsaber where I can't be expelled for it, right?"

"I don't want you caught without it the one time you'll really, really need it," Anakin said quietly. "What do you know about vampires?"

"Bloodsuckers with bad teeth," she answered simply. "I saw part of a movie here. I got bored and turned it off."

"You need to know more than that," Anakin said. "There's one on the island now and the last time he was here, he almost killed Rory."

She raised her eyebrows and said, "So you must really like the guy."
