Anakin's desk was covered in electronics as he spun a tiny screwdriver between his fingers and consulted his schematics again.

It was easier to keep his mind off of unpleasant thoughts when his hands were busy.

The door was open.

Rory smiled. "And then we didn't see Grandma or Grandpa for a very long time. Mia was the closest I had to a grandmother when I was small, even though she couldn't have been more than thirty-something."

"I'm not ready to be a grandfather," Anakin said quickly. "Be sure to pass that along to Luke." He smiled. "She sounds wonderful."

"She's great," Rory said with a nod. "And like I said, I think Luke's sworn off all activities that may vault you into grandparenthood."

"It'll make him a better Jedi than I was," Anakin decided, then moved back to the more important conversation.

"So tell me more about Mia," he said.

She smiled. "There's not much to tell. She ran the inn, she's very motherly and kind of...matter-of-fact. She's the reason my mom grew up, aside from the fact that she had a baby to watch out for. She's the reason we turned out okay."

"That seems like a lot to tell to me," Anakin said, smiling softly.

Rory shrugged again, shy. "Maybe you'll meet her someday, or something," she said.

"I'd like that," Anakin said, and there was that flash of something back in his eyes again.

Rory shifted a little under that look, chewing her lip. "Well, it's hardly fair that I'm good friends with your remaining family and you barely know mine at all. Maybe I'll ask Mom if I can bring Bucky down here for a few days this summer."

Anakin's smile widened into a genuine grin. "Is he huge now? I bet he won't remember me at all."

"He's eight months," she said, holding her hands at an approximation of Bucky's size. "And he might not, as he is wee and you don't have the braid for him to play with anymore."

"I'm a much better babysitter than I was six months ago," Anakin said with a wry smile. "Not that it would've made much of a difference to your mother, apparently."

Rory rolled her eyes. "I don't know what she was thinking. But I know Luke was planning a vacation sometime soonish. I'll ask if I can keep Bucky for those days instead of Sookie or Babette."

"I'm thinking caffeine deprivation had to be involved somehow," Anakin replied with a smile. "And I'd love to see him again."

"I still worry that I'm going to drop him on his head or something," she said, frowning.

Anakin gave her a gentle smile. "Rory. Why would you possibly drop your little brother?"

"I am very clumsy," she said solemnly.
