Anakin's desk was covered in electronics as he spun a tiny screwdriver between his fingers and consulted his schematics again.

It was easier to keep his mind off of unpleasant thoughts when his hands were busy.

The door was open.

"Not if you use duct tape," Anakin said.

Aeryn laughs a little. "I can't see many agreeing to that voluntarily. Action would have to be taken."

Anakin nodded. "It gets the point across pretty quickly, though," he said. "But it leads to paperwork. You wouldn't believe how many times I was tempted to use some on Padmé's friends."

"Padme?" she says, not recognizing the name.

Anakin dropped his eyes, suddenly shy. "My wife."

"Ah," she says. "Maybe you should have asked her about the duct tape. She may have agreed to it."

"She was much more forgiving than I was," Anakin said, staring off into the distance. "She wouldn't have agreed to it, there at the end." He sighed. "We didn't agree on much, there at the end."

"If you start beating yourself up about it, I'll hit you," she warns.

"And that's a disincentive?" Anakin asked wryly.

[can_be_more]

"Most people would consider it such," she smirks.

[sith_happened]

"I bet I could still take you," Anakin declared, eyes sparkling with mischief.

"You didn't know that you could before," she scoffs.

"I was holding back then," Anakin said, rewriting history as he spoke.

[can_be_more]

"Oh, please," she says. "Your memory's apparently begun to fail over the last twenty years."

Anakin snorted. "No, it hasn't."

Ah, egotism.

"Fine. Now you're going to have to prove it," she tells him.

"Deal," Anakin said promptly. "Just name the time and place."

[can_be_more]

"I'm free all weekend," she says. "The town has a gym, right?"

Anakin nodded. "Yes. I've never been, but it seems as good a place as any to teach you to respect your elders."

"You'll get it when you earn it," she teases.

[sith_happened]

"Big talk," Anakin teased back. "We'll see if you can back it up."

[can_be_more]

"You're clearly overcompensating," she tells him. "I don't know how I stand to be in the same room as you."

"Maybe I should charge credits for the privilege," Anakin mused, smirking.

Okay, now Aeryn's laughing at him.

Anakin took it gracefully. "Obi-Wan once told me if I could ever learn to shunt my ego into my starfighter's shields I'd've been invincible."
