Skywalker Apartment [Tuesday evening]

Anakin was seated barefoot on the floor wearing only his undertunic and pants, his attention focused on the tiny baby on an equally tiny pink blanket laying between him and Rory.

"I know the pediatrician said that tummy time is important," he finally ventured, "but when Juliet can't lift her head yet, it just seems a little...mean."

He laughed, then laughed harder when Juliet made a little noise.

It wasn't a laugh, but Anakin would dare you to say otherwise.

"Our child is brilliant," Rory said reverently, beaming at Juliet.

"She is," Anakin agreed. "Do you think that was a thought on her sonata or her first dissertation on global affairs?"

"The latter. She probably won't be a musician until she's at least three," Rory sighed.

Anakin sighed too. "But by then she'll be fluent in French."

"And Spanish, and on her way through Portuguese," she added.

"With enough Huttese to get by," Anakin chimed in.

"Only clean words," Rory warned.

His cheeks went pink even as he pretended he had no idea what she was talking about. "Of course!" He poked her foot with his again.

"I don't want her first word to be some kind of horrible Huttese curse," Rory replied, pinching his toe.

Anakin giggled, though he'd completely deny it. "It won't be. It'll probably be 'book'. Or 'coffee.'"

"Or 'Daddy,'" she offered softly.

Anakin's smile couldn't get any bigger. "You think?"

"Probably," she said, grinning at him.

"I think it will be mama," Anakin replied, leaning across the baby to rest his head against Rory's. "The books said that's very possible."

"Or something random. Like 'stairstepper,'" Rory offered.

"Kumquat," Anakin replied, running his hand along the baby's spine.

"Platypus," Rory ventured, smiling at them.

"Bureau," he added.

He had an unreasonable love for that word. Don't ask.

"Magnooooolia," Rory drawled.

"Oooh, nice one," Anakin replied. "Portabella."

"Effervescent," Rory replied.

"I think that one took me years to master," Anakin admitted with a laugh. "But our daughter is brilliant."

He peered down at the little girl. "Can you say 'brilliant,' Juliet?"

Juliet peered at him, then made a wee burbly sort of noise.

"She can," Rory said, beaming.

Anakin laughed. "She certainly can!"

It was far too close to cooing than he would ever admit to doing.
