Anakin's door was wide open as bright, cheerful music spilled out into the hallway.

He wandered around his office, adding a new picture frame to his desk and grinning to himself every time he looked over at it.

If you knew him at all, you might fear for his sanity.

He had his reasons.

"No, and that's a weird question, but... what?"

It did occur to her that the next time she saw Leia, she'd have to follow up "I've got a picture of your mother," with "And he's marrying someone else, but she's really nice."

"I'm getting married again," Anakin said, mouth setting into a very familiar stubborn line. "But not for years."

This was still beyond strange to hear. And she hadn't even had a chance to talk to her Luke yet. "Congratulations," she managed. She could be thrown off, but she was still trying.

Anakin cut her a break. "Thanks," he said with a small smile.

"I mean, it's going to take some getting used to," she admitted. And she could just imagine this Luke's reaction. "But if it makes you happy, then good."

The grin was back. "It makes me very happy."

"Good. So, um, when is this happening?"

"Not for years," Anakin replied. "Rory wants to graduate from college first. We're in no real hurry." He shrugged. "It was kind of a spontaneous thing, asking her."

How shockingly out of character for him.

Jaina wondered if she'd be older than her AU step-grandmother before they actually went through with this. "The question snuck up on you?" she asked.

He nodded. "Not that I hadn't been thinking about it, but it wasn't planned out. I just saw the ring in the shop and bought it. I thought I'd be holding onto it longer than 20 minutes."

"That... definitely counts as spontaneous," she agreed.

"Trust your feelings, right?" Anakin replied with a smile.

She gave him a little smile back. "Is she here, or is she... back wherever she normally is?" She was wondering a little if Rory was another talk she was going to have to have, and how to keep that from being a really awkward second meeting.

"She's back at school," Anakin said. "You don't have to call her or anything, I promise, but I'd love for you to be able to come to the wedding once we finally settle on a year."

"Of course," she said, nodding. "I mean, as long as it doesn't mess up any timelines or anything for you and Uncle Luke." She might have was assuming Leia would be there, too.

Anakin gave her a sad smile. "I don't think she'll come."

"You said years, right? A lot can happen in years," she pointed out.

"So she didn't inherit my ability to hold a grudge beyond all good sense?" Anakin asked.

"Maybe not all of it," said Jaina, and paused briefly. "I went home for a few days. She knows you're here."

"And she let you come back," Anakin said with a very small smile. "That only took, what? Twenty years or so?"

"First, she doesn't get a choice in letting me come back or not, and second, my little brother just turned sixteen so I think it's been less time than that," she said. "She knew before she talked to me about it, but she handled hearing things pretty well."

"I'm still having Luke call my Leia," Anakin said, "because I don't think she'd pick up a comm from me."

"Probably a good idea," she said. "The news itself might be easier to take from him." And if it required a bitch session, they'd have each other right there.

"Exactly," Anakin said with a nod. "So how was home?"

"Good," she said. "Much calmer than I expected, just me, Mom and Dad and no invasions. And I passed the eye exam. All healed."
