Anakin's room [way late Saturday]

Anakin--who knew he was Anakin, which apparently made him a minority on the island tonight--was so very glad he hadn't been drinking anything when he'd been listening to the night's radio.

After he finished laughing until he couldn't breathe, he reached for his comlink and dialed a number.

Anakin paused. "...honey?"

"..sorry. I was, um." Say something. Say anything that isn't "I miss you." Come on, Gilmore. "Being reassuring."

Anakin's laughter sounded hollow to his own ears. "Oh," he said. "Consider me reassured, then."

"Oh, good. My work here is done then," she said, her voice sounding duller than she'd have liked.

"Hey," Anakin said, using the tone of voice that normally accompanied him touching her face. "You okay?"

"Yup," she said brightly.

"Is that an actual yes or a 'don't push it, Anakin' yes?" Anakin asked quietly.

"It's a yes," she non-answered.

"That's not exactly an answer," Anakin murmured.

"I'm feeling obtuse," she said softly.

Anakin let out a chuckle. "I always thought you were acute," he said.

Oh, Anakin. Geometry puns? Really?

Anakin's cheeks flamed up.

"Sorry," he mumbled.

"It's cute," she said before she could stop herself.

Well, that got his attention. "It is?"

"Yeah," she mumbled shyly.

Anakin's stomach did a happy little flip-flop.

"I didn't do it on purpose."

"I know," she said softly, kind of glad it wasn't a visual call.

There was a small pause as Anakin grinned doofily at the phone.

"I'll see you in less than a week," he said, sounding very, very excited despite his best efforts.

"I'll be there with bells on," she promised.

"That'll make you easier to find if I lose you in the crowd," Anakin said with a smile.

"I think my dress is pretty distinctive, too."

"I think you're pretty distinctive all the time," Anakin replied.

That made her smile. "Wait until you see the dress."

"Does it light up?" Anakin asked, sounding amused.
