Anakin's room [way late Saturday]

Anakin--who knew he was Anakin, which apparently made him a minority on the island tonight--was so very glad he hadn't been drinking anything when he'd been listening to the night's radio.

After he finished laughing until he couldn't breathe, he reached for his comlink and dialed a number.

It was a moment before she picked up. "H'lo?"

"I didn't wake you, did I?" Anakin asked, checking the time. "Or, um, interrupt anything?"

"What would you interrupt?" she asked, just a little groggily as she peeled herself up off her textbook. "And, um, I was...studying."

"It's a Saturday night," Anakin said, sounding a little worried. "You might've gone out with friends."

By "friends" Anakin meant "a guy."

"Paper due next week," she replied dismissively. "What's up?"

Anakin's voice sounded distinctly amused. "Fandom's struck again," he said.

"Uh oh. You don't sound four...."

"Oh, it didn't affect me," Anakin said, "but the radio makes it sound like most of the island's been mindwhammied into forgetting who they are."

"Forgetting who they are?" she repeated slowly. "Oh, dear."

"I didn't do it," Anakin said quietly, "in case you were wondering."

He was always going to be a little sensitive about that.

"...I wasn't," she said gently.

Something tense uncoiled from between his shoulder blades and he smiled. "Dean thinks his name is Alec, half of the school has picked the wrong partner to believe they are dating, and my son thinks he's a pimp," he blurted.

"A what?"

Anakin dissolved into giggles.

Not that he'd call them that.

"For Rikku and Dawn," he choked out.

"Oh dear god," Rory laughed. "I've never been happier to not be there, and yet also very, very sad."

"Hopefully Artoo is getting footage," Anakin said, still chuckling. "We can have a screening. And never tell him about it."

"Never tell him? Um, I plan to taunt him senseless," she corrected.

"I think it depends entirely on if he comes out of his room when this wears off," Anakin said. "The next day, he's fair game."

"I'll see him next week," she pointed out. "There will be mocking."

"Oh," Anakin said, and the tone of his voice changed, "Luke stopped by the office after I got off the phone with you. We're okay again."

Rory beamed. "Really?" she squeaked.

"Really," Anakin confirmed. "I've got a hell of a kid, don't I?"

"Yeah," she said softly, beaming. "I'm so happy for you guys."

"Force knows I don't deserve it," Anakin said quietly.

"Of course you do," she murmured on instinct.
