33 Apocalypse Avenue [mid-morning]

A very small boy with a bucket over his head--thanks for that, Friday's toy chest--toddled down the hallway and made his way down the stairs.

Bounce-bounce-bounce.

Rear ends are great for that.

He made his way into the kitchen and leaned up onto his tiptoes to reach the cereal--something bright with incomprehensible writing on the side--and tipped about half of it onto the floor.

Exasperated, he lifted the bucket off of his eyes to see. Bright blue eyes gazed around the room and settled on the telephone.

Ooooh. He could call all of his friends!

Or punch random numbers and leave messages...which is what a four-year-old is much more inclined to do...

He nodded. "I let him think he'd cut off my hand and everything first," he said.

"That was nice of you," Rory said with a smile. "Why do you have a bucket?"

"I was being a superhero," he told her, "and I needed a secret dentity."

"Ohhhhhhhh," Rory said, nodding solemnly. She lowered her voice. "Is it working?"

He nodded. "As long as you don't tell anyone," he whispered.

Well, "whispered."

"Cross my heart," Rory said, drawing an X over her chest.

He gave her another hug and a wet kiss on the cheek. "Bestest Rory ever," he declared.

"Awwww," she said, hugging him tight. "Do you know other Rories?"

"It wouldn't matter if I knew a million other Rories," he declared, "I love you bestest."

Rory, admirably, didn't cry at that.

"I love you bestest too," she decided. "Now, what do you want to do?"

"Outside?" he asked hopefully.

It should be noted that he didn't have shoes on.

"You need shoes," Rory said, frowning thoughtfully. "Or else your toes will freeze and fall off!"

She punctuated this by covering his feet with her hands and possibly tickling.

"Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!" Anakin shrieked, giggling.

And now she was tickling his ribs. "You can't escaaaaaaape," she taunted.

"Eeeeeeeeeeeee!" he shrieked some more, giggling and trying to wriggle out of the way.

Too bad Rory was bigger, for once, and she had a pretty good grip on him.

She blew a raspberry on his tummy and laughed at him.

"Stop it stopit stopit," he giggled.

Not really meaning it.

"Noooo, you're my prisoner," Rory declared, snagging him around the waist and settling onto the ground for the time being. "I have captured you."

"Jailbreak!" he cried, trying to break out of her hug.

Rory gasped and allowed him to escape. "You're too strong for me!" she said despairingly. "I guess I'll have to eat all my cookies by myself. Come on Vladdie. You can sit with me."

That brought him to a screeching halt. "Vladdie'll eat my cookies?" He turned back around and came over to Rory, then sat down on the floor, crunching cereal under his rear. "I'll be good," he promised.

"If you put on shoes and maybe a jacket or something, I'll take you outside," Rory promised, handing over another cookie.

He raced over and picked up his bathrobe, then grabbed Rory by the hand and tried to yank her towards the stairs.

"All the boots were too big," he complained.

Rory stumbled to her feet and followed him. "Vladdie, you stay," she said. "I bet the boots were big. Hmm. Your little toes will be sooooo cold, though."

"I'm a big boy and don't need to be carried any more," he told her, opening the door into Vader's room.

It was absolutely bare except for a giant meditation pod by the window and a pair of boots and a black cape in the closet.

The little boy made a face. "This room is booooooring."
