Anakin was in his office as usual today, glaring angrily at the Christmas themed ads as they popped up on his computer screen.

"Can't I get through Thanksgiving first?" he complained aloud.

The door was open.

"I bet," Jaina said, and shrugged. "I always figured Mom was trying to shed an image or something by keeping it shorter. Or it just didn't fit with her lifestyle anymore."

"She doesn't want to be the Rebel princess in everyone's head?" Anakin guessed. "Makes sense."

[solo_sword]

"Oh, I think she'll always be that. She just has no reason to be... coiffed anymore, so there's no point," she clarified.

Anakin nodded. "She's more than a pair of buns anyway," he said with a grin, "as I'm sure more than a few politicians have discovered to their sorrow."

[solo_sword]

"Yeah, it's a fun set of expectations to live up to," she said lightly. "So how've things been?" Since she knew she didn't come here much.

"Halloween got very odd," Anakin admitted. "Juliet turned into a lion trying to fly an X-Wing."

[solo_sword]

None of that made any sense to Jaina at all. "...Okaaaaaaay."

[sith_happened]

"She was dressed as a lion, and I'd tricked out her stroller to look better," Anakin said, "and then she turned into the lion. With an X-Wing. Next year I'm picking a better costume."

"Or maybe not dress her up?" Jaina suggested. "But then, Halloween's not my thing."

[sith_happened]

Anakin shrugged. "It's a planetary cultural thing," he said. "She'll grow up here, so she should probably know the holidays."

"Dressing up doesn't mean she doesn't learn, though. I never dressed up and I still get the point: candy." This was true,

[sith_happened]

"She's not even two yet," Anakin said. "I'll give it a few years and then she can decide that she hates the holiday and I have to get my candy somewhere else."

Jaina couldn't help feeling she'd said something wrong somehow. "I'm just saying it's an option."

[sith_happened]

He gave her a little smile. "It is. But Rory enjoys the holiday and the candy, and I don't mind indulging her. How has your class been this semester?"

[solo_sword]

"It's been okay. Not much change," she answered. "I'm already thinking ahead to next semester, seeing if there's anything worth teaching that I can handle."

[sith_happened]

Anakin looked interested. "What ideas do you have? The infiltration seminar was a big hit this summer."

[solo_sword]

"Not many," Jaina admitted. "Hand-to-hand's been done, and while I could get another semester out of what I'm doing now, I need to change things up. I'm afraid that might cover my actual skill set."

[sith_happened]

"You're more than just a pilot," Anakin said. "Think like a Jedi. Or like a child who never stayed where they were put when there were more interesting things to see." He smiled. "There's a skill set the students here appreciate."

"I don't think many people would take a class on Making Robes Work For You," she deadpanned.

[sith_happened]

"It depends," Anakin replied. "Will you teach how to make them flare as you walk?"

[solo_sword]

"Eh. That's more of a Kyp thing," Jaina said. "It's just ideas, anyway. I don't know what I'm doing next semester, but I figure I should have something in mind if I'm still here."

"You're thinking you won't be?" Anakin asked. "What's going on at home?"

[solo_sword]

"Nothing huge," she assured him. "I just don't think there's a lot of reason for me to stay, at which point it'd just be time to go. I have a while till I have to make a decision."

Anakin nodded, looking slightly regretful. "I'm sure Luke could use all the Jedi he can get his hands on now that you aren't speaking in plural any longer."

[solo_sword]

"Luke not having enough Jedi is his own fault, and I know I'm still going to end up with Zekk so talking in plural or not doesn't matter," Jaina said, a little dryly. "Being here's good for me personally-" And that was all John's doing, honestly. "-but I'm almost too bored for it to be worth it most of the time. I feel like I'm being wasted."
