Anakin was in his office as usual today, glaring angrily at the Christmas themed ads as they popped up on his computer screen.

"Can't I get through Thanksgiving first?" he complained aloud.

The door was open.

"It's me being rational. My lifestyle is horrible for relationships, and they distract me from my job that I have to do. It's pretty cut and dry there."

Plus breakups sucked and she was done with them.

Anakin gave her a "I'm not totally believing you" look.

"If you think so."

"Don't give me that look," Jaina said, rolling her eyes. "I was lucky to see my last boyfriend every couple months thanks to our jobs, and that went on for almost two years. I have quarters at the Temple. I never see them because I'm always on assignment when I'm in my home galaxy. That's just the way it is."

"I had a wife in the middle of a war and we were seldom on the same planet, and even when we were, we weren't supposed to be spending time together," Anakin countered. "There was a reason the Jedi didn't allow relationships that were as much about logistics as detachment. But I don't think that ignoring my feelings for Padmé would have made me a better Jedi, and I don't believe that you deciding to concentrate solely on what is, quite frankly, an extremely crappy prophecy is going to make you a happier person." He looked at her. "And I want you to be happy."

That wasn't happening and she knew it. At the very least she'd have Jacen hanging over her head until she knew how that was going to go, and she'd still rather know and have a chance to change things than to live in ignorance until it was too late. "I'm not complaining," she assured him. "I don't need a relationship. What I do helps people, and that's enough for me. That's in the extremely crappy prophecy, too."

He tried to meet her eyes. "You're sure?"

Yes and no. "Yes," she said. "And even if I wasn't, there really isn't anything to be done about it. I'll live."

Anakin still looked worried. "Would you admit it if you weren't happy?"

[solo_sword]

"I'm not exactly having the time of my life right now. I don't know what else you'd want me to say."

So the answer was 'sort of.'

Anakin, without thinking about it, sent a wave of reassurance through the Force. "Anything I can do?" he asked. "Chocolate? Hugs? Sparring session?"

[solo_sword]

She paused. "A sparring session wouldn't hurt," she decided. "As long as it's sparring, not teaching." Jaina knew she needed to get better, and while her skills probably weren't up to par with Anakin's yet, she had to be getting close. Hopefully.

His lips quirked up. "I think I can manage that. Ben needs very little instruction these days either."

[solo_sword]

She even managed a little smile. "Then when are you free? I somehow have nothing but time. Just not next week for the love of god."

[sith_happened]

"I have to be on campus on Friday for the Glee Club concert--don't ask--if the morning is all right with you," Anakin suggested.

[solo_sword]

"I can make that," she decided. That actually worked in with her usual training schedule, and yes she was sad enough to think about things like that. "So, I guess with that decided, I should leave you be till then."

He smiled. "See you in a few days, then."
