Office hours [all day]

Anakin was in his office after his weekly meeting with Ben, per usual, but this time we was sitting cross-legged on the floor putting together a very large, synthflesh-covered nanny droid.

No one had ever accused him of having a normal home life, no.

The door was open.

Raven had seen similar things in Dite's Decadent Delights. She really hoped it wasn't one of those because she would be scarred for life. And perhaps into the next one. And she may not have known it yet, but she had quite a few lives lined up in her future, including a leather-clad dominatrix version of herself who probably would've been a lot more at home at Aphrodite's store. But that was getting way ahead of herself.

"Good morning, Professor Skywalker," she said from the doorway.

"Good morning," Anakin said, looking up from all of the pieces. "Nanny droid for my daughter," he explained. "My wife will be going back to school soon."

"You will entrust her care to a machine?" Raven said.

[sith_happened]

"While we're not there, which won't be very extended periods of time," Anakin said. "It's programmed to smell and sound like we do," which was only a little creepy, really, "and will also be heavily armed. You can't be too prepared."

[trigons_child]

"Do you think she will be in danger?" Raven asked. She really had no idea what would be considered normal or not for raising a child.

[sith_happened]

"I think that if I prepare for the worst, everything else will be happy accidents," he said. "My family has a bit of history being targets."

[trigons_child]

"Your daughter is very fortunate to have a father who protects her so," Raven said. "But if any harm were to befall her, my gifts are yours to use."

[sith_happened]

Anakin smiled. "It's what a father is supposed to do, isn't it? Protect their children from things they aren't equipped to face yet?"

He gave a little shrug. "I didn't grow up with the most...regular...definition of a family."

[trigons_child]

"Nor did I," Raven said, though she knew Anakin already was well aware of that. "But I have recently learned just how much my mother sacrificed to protect me, and a true father would do no less."

[sith_happened]

Anakin was also completely overcompensating for being a rotten father to his first two children, something he wasn't eager to share.

His brow furrowed. "Have you told me about that?"

"Some I have only learned just yesterday, so no," Raven said. "Karla -- she is a student here, and friends with your grandson Ben -- offered to perform a weaving ritual to help me see my past and my future. She told me she saw my past, my birth. I barely knew my mother. I thought she could not bear to look upon me as I would be a reminder of what my father did to her. But I know now that she was doing as Azar requested, to protect me from forming a bond with her."

Anakin's eyes were incredibly sympathetic. "That was quite a sacrifice to make."

[trigons_child]

"I did not truly know her until after Azar died and she took over my care," Raven said. "But even then she was forbidden to say she loved me. But now I find myself thinking that perhaps Azar was wrong."

[solo_sword]

Jaina was still slightly frustrated this morning when she came in-

"Am I interrupting?" she asked, her frustration put on hold as her first thought was new toy.

[sith_happened]

"Not at all," Anakin said. "I'm working on a nanny droid. You familiar?"

[solo_sword]

She turned her hand in the universal sign for 'little bit' and asked, "Moreso if Threepio counts. You need a nanny droid?"

[sith_happened]

"It has weapons," Anakin said.

So "yes."

[solo_sword]

Jaina gave him a Look, taking a seat on the floor. "You don't even live in town. Your babysitter does not need weapons."

[sith_happened]

"Rory was kidnapped from the apartment when I wasn't home," Anakin said. "The weapons stay."

[solo_sword]

It was a bit of a touchy subject for Jaina, given how many times she'd been kidnapped and the fact that she had really strong ideas on parents vs. nannies, and she didn't want to be bringing those up if she didn't have to. "What needs to still be done?" she asked.

[sith_happened]

"It needs arms," Anakin said, smiling and handing her an extra multitool. "Pull up some carpet."

[solo_sword]

She took the multitool, picking up the parts to start working. "So what are the chances of me getting into that simulation you mentioned forever ago for lightsaber training?"

[sith_happened]

"High," Anakin said. "You're ready for it. Do you want a partner?"

[solo_sword]

"I'd rather do it alone, if that's okay," Jaina said, almost apologetically. "That seems to be how I'm doing the majority of my fighting these days, so I need to be more ready for it."

Anakin nodded. "Do you need particular types of opponents programmed in?" he asked.
