33 Apocalypse Avenue [late afternoon]

After a long few hours in the flight simulator (where he hadn't killed John Sheppard (yet)), Anakin put Juliet down for a nap and smiled down at the solemn little boy who had accompanied them home.

"Should we call your mother?" he suggested.

"Good boy," Aeryn said, very impressed at his truth-telling. "Are you getting a lot of practice?"

"Not as much as I want," China replied. "You say that you shouldn't get everything you want all the time."

Ooh, other her was smarter than last year's other her. "That's right. Besides, there's time for that later. You should be enjoying yourself at your age."

"I don't get to fly enough either," China said, just a little petulant.

Wonder where that came from.

"I wasn't able to fly at all as a child," Aeryn pointed out. "I had to wait until I could actually reach the pedals. If you're already flying, you're well ahead of your time."

"Simulators aren't really flying," China declared. "I beat some girl today. She was mad."

"Who did you beat?" Aeryn wondered. Which was her trying to find out if it was the kid of anyone she knew.

"Some other Skywalker," China replied. "Her name was Jolee. Luke's her dad."

"Aha. Do you have a lot of other Skywalkers around, China?"

"Only today. Normally it's just the three of us. Luke doesn't visit that much any more."

"Why not?" She was still sort of boggling over "the three of us".

"He's busy with the Jedi back where he lives," China said, "but it doesn't mean he doesn't like me."

The last part sounded like he'd repeated it a lot.

"You know he likes you," said Aeryn. This was Luke, after all. "That just happens when people get older, they need to do their own... thing."

"That's why I'm not going to grow up," China declared.

She couldn't help but be a little amused. "You're not?"

"I'm still working on it," China said. "Because I want to be tall enough to hit pedals on real ships."

She did sort of love this kid. "Do you have a plan for it yet?"

"I was trying out fake legs, but Dad said they weren't sensitive enough to react," China said. "I think he was upset I was taller than he was."

Anakin snorted next to him on the sofa.

"Fake legs," Aeryn repeated, trying to picture it. "Do I want to know?"

"They were more like sticks?" China said. "I wanted to pull out Artoo's arm to see how it worked, but he squealed really loud and Luke frowned."

"Yes, it's probably not a good idea to pull parts out of Artoo," Aeryn said slowly.

"Because sometimes when he zaps you, you deserve it," China recited.

Oh, so he'd heard this before. "Yes. And you don't want to get zapped, right?"

Aeryn definitely sounded surprised when she said, "I get zapped?"
