33 Apocalypse Avenue [late afternoon]

After a long few hours in the flight simulator (where he hadn't killed John Sheppard (yet)), Anakin put Juliet down for a nap and smiled down at the solemn little boy who had accompanied them home.

"Should we call your mother?" he suggested.

China nodded up at him.

Anakin patted a spot next to him on the sofa for China to sit, then pulled out his comlink and placed a call to Massachusetts.

Aeryn was just getting off of work when she got the call, checking the caller ID before anything. "Hello," she greeted him.

"Hey!" he replied, grinning. "You'll never guess what Fandom spat out this weekend. Think Umberta, but less annoying."

There was a long pause.

"I'd repressed her," she said. "And now I'm worried."

"There's a little boy sitting next to me who says his name is China," Anakin said, laughter in his voice.

Aeryn actually pulled the phone away from her ear and stared at it for a moment. "I'm sorry," she said, "I must have misheard you."

"You didn't mishear me," Anakin said, chuckling. "I'm not asking a lot of questions of how this might have happened."

"China?" she repeated, still stunned.

"Other us took a game of Risk a little seriously?" Anakin suggested.

"I think other us has something wrong with them," said Aeryn, who secretly wondered if it would be bad to consider the name for her own baby, just to win, ha.

"Some kind of head trauma?" Anakin teased. "Would you like to say hello to him?"

"Yes," Aeryn said, though this was still bizarre."I think I have to hear this for myself."

"Hello," China said quietly into the comlink. "Where are you?"

"I'm in Cambridge," she said, and added, "I'm held up here for a bit."

China was a little boy who didn't admit when anything bothered him. "Are you shooting things?" he asked instead of saying he missed her.

"Not quite," Aeryn said, almost smiling. "It's pretty boring. I'd much rather be there." Which was true.

"Can I go shoot things?"

It was worth a try.

"No," she said automatically. She supposed that was good. "Do I usually let you shoot things?"

Like the kid had ever lied in his life with Aeryn and Anakin as parents. "Only when you and Dad are both watching."

"Good boy," Aeryn said, very impressed at his truth-telling. "Are you getting a lot of practice?"

"Not as much as I want," China replied. "You say that you shouldn't get everything you want all the time."

Ooh, other her was smarter than last year's other her. "That's right. Besides, there's time for that later. You should be enjoying yourself at your age."

"I don't get to fly enough either," China said, just a little petulant.

Wonder where that came from.

"I wasn't able to fly at all as a child," Aeryn pointed out. "I had to wait until I could actually reach the pedals. If you're already flying, you're well ahead of your time."
