Anakin was in his office, flipping aimlessly through the star charts that he could scatter like lights on his walls.

He kept focusing on the Mid-Rim systems. No reason.

The door was wide open.

"Shh, don't tell Mara. But hey, I know the town, I know the closest cities, and I learned all that within my first week," she protested.

Anakin snorted. "Obi-Wan wouldn't let me come her until I knew the continents, major nations, and phrases in four languages," he replied. "The Mandarin never came in handy."

"The languages thing, I know I've been spoiled with Threepio," Jaina admitted. "I might have to steal him from wherever he is at the moment if I ever plan on traveling abroad." Which she didn't.

"Threepio seems like a high price to pay to travel abroad," he teased. "Obi-Wan insisted on us being at least conversational in most of the major languages. He said it was a good memory test."

[solo_sword]

"It makes sense," she said, considering this. "I think it just fell into there not being much time. Until I went off with Mara it was myself and my brothers all the time, and then there was a lot of the time planet-saving involved before we got around to learning anything."

Anakin didn't look particularly pleased by that. "You should at least know the trade languages," he decided. "And Huttese has great curses."

"Those I know," she assured him. "I didn't think those counted as actually knowing the language, though."

"If you can use them in grammatically correct way, I'd say they count." He gave her a mischievous smile. "It was the argument I gave Obi-Wan." He shrugged. "Of course, I had Huttese down pretty well before getting to the Temple."

"Especially the curses, I bet," she nodded.

[sith_happened]

"There wasn't a lot of use for diplomatic language in Mos Espa," Anakin replied a little bitterly.

[solo_sword]

"I'm guessing it's not much different than Mos Eisley, huh?" Jaina inferred.

[sith_happened]

"Not really," Anakin said. "I was far too young to go into the tapcafes."

[solo_sword]

"From what I understood, you'd still be too young. Even at your age," she teased.

[sith_happened]

Anakin grinned back. "Exactly. And if I ever hear about you going near them..."

[solo_sword]

"Something tells me that isn't going to be a problem," Jaina assured him. Also, he probably wouldn't hear about it if she did.

"I'd hear about it if you did," Anakin assured her.

[solo_sword]

"Oh, where?"

[sith_happened]

Anakin put on his most Jedi expression. "I have my ways."

He probably did.

"So do I," she challenged. And notice how she wasn't thinking the slightest bit about any stolen ships she'd taken home.

Anakin's brow furrowed. "You're keeping something from me."

[solo_sword]

"Of course I am. It's a teenager thing. I'm supposed to," she reminded him.

[sith_happened]

Anakin snickered despite himself. "True. But if I end up bailing you out of the jail, I'm going to be unhappy."

[solo_sword]

"Please. You don't grow up as me without knowing how to pick a lock."

[sith_happened]

Anakin nodded. "Not that you've used them to break out a cell where you were being legitimately held, naturally."

[solo_sword]

"I haven't," Jaina said. "Besides, let's face it, anything where I end up in a cell on a legitimate charge is going to come down to one of those point of view things anyway."
