Anakin was in his office, flipping aimlessly through the star charts that he could scatter like lights on his walls.

He kept focusing on the Mid-Rim systems. No reason.

The door was wide open.

River entered the room, eyeing the star maps. Looking for something?

Anakin smiled. Not really. Just a little homesick. It doesn't happen often.

She nodded. Show me a good place?

Anakin immediately zoomed in on a beautiful blue planet. This is Naboo, he said, smiling softly. My wife's home planet.

Looks like a jewel, River commented. You met there?

Anakin shook his head and pressed a few buttons. A desolate planet circling two suns spun into view. We met here. My home world. One of the only good things that ever happened there.

And the other good things? River asked, looking at the desert world.

Luke grew up there, Anakin replied with a small smile. That almost makes up for a lot.

She smiled back, nodding.

After talking to Luke this weekend, Jaina knew it might be a good idea to stop by. She knocked on the doorframe, poking her head in.

"Hello, Jaina," Anakin said with a welcoming smile.

Smiles were good. She stepped in, asking, "So how are you this week?"

"I spent time with Rory," he said.

So good.

That was still taking some getting used to. "Luke mentioned. Good time?" She didn't think she had to ask him to spare the details.

Anakin made a face. "Some portions. Her grandparents weren't exactly thrilled by the engagement. They had someone a little more...from this planet...in mind."

"Well, you live here," Jaina said, frowning. "And it's not like you're another species so everyone would know. Why should they care?"

Anakin shrugged. "It's more who I'm not. Money. A family they go to the club with. Someone who gives a damn about the differences between Harvard and Yale. My resume, even if they ever heard it, wouldn't mean anything. It got ugly."

"But it's not up to them," said Jaina. She decided this might not be the right opening to remind him of his own criticisms of Han and Mara and John.

Anakin gave her a thin smile. "Damn right it's not. And they have years to get over it. Or not."

"I'm sure in time they'll get over it and come to learn that as long as Rory's happy, that's all that matters," she nodded.

Anakin's feeling through the Force was decidedly cynical about that. "Perhaps," he said. "How has your week been?"

Jaina still hadn't had anything to knock her down from her good mood yet. It was sort of unsettling, even to her. "Good," she said, glad the automatic smile she'd had in response to that question was at least a little more controllable now. "I can't complain for once."

Anakin smiled back. "That's always nice to hear. Are you up for sparring with me soon?"

"Definitely," she said immediately. "Give me a time and place and I'm there."

"How's Friday?" he asked with a smile. "I can squeeze it in before heading back to Connecticut."
