Office hours [all day]

Anakin's door was wide open as bright, cheerful music spilled out into the hallway.

He wandered around his office, adding a new picture frame to his desk and grinning to himself every time he looked over at it.

If you knew him at all, you might fear for his sanity.

He had his reasons.

Anakin smiled again. "Rory said yes," he said.

"...to what?" Luke asked cautiously.

"To marrying me," Anakin said, beaming.

Luke's jaw dropped.

"Are you okay with this?" Anakin asked.

"Huh? Me? Oh, I'm totally fine!" Luke said breezily, giving Anakin a bright smile. "Congratulations! When did this happen?"

"While we were in Paris," Anakin said, watching Luke carefully. "She's not a replacement for your mother, you know," he continued quietly.

"Of course not," Luke said with that same smile on his face. "She's younger than me, for one. And one of my best friends, for another."

Another smile. "So when the big day?"

He didn't exactly trust himself to say "wedding."

"Years from now," Anakin said. "We're waiting until she graduates."

And suddenly it became easier to breathe again. Years from now meant Luke didn't have to deal with idea right now.

Not that he had a problem with it, of course. He was fine.

"Oh," he said. "That kind of reminds me of what I wanted to tell you about. There's a student who just arrived who looks just like my mother did. She's taking your class."

Anakin's jaw dropped.

"She confused Artoo," Luke said, "so I thought you should know before you walked into class tomorrow."

He gave his father a tight smile. "So you didn't freak out at her or something."

So helpful, that Luke.

"I wouldn't have freaked out at her," Anakin said icily. "I have a little more control over myself than that, thank you."

Years of evidence to the contrary should be ignored, of course.

"Uh-huh," Luke said, keeping his voice and his emotions carefully neutral. "It's always better to know than not, though, right?"

He smiled again, and for the first time it looked genuine. "Tell Rory I'm happy for her, okay. And for you."

Anakin smiled back. "Thank you. That means a lot."

He paused, looking over at a picture of Rory and he as it flashed across the screen. "How do you think Leia will take the news?"

A snort of incredulous laughter escaped before Luke could control himself. "I'm not sure it'll be the best reaction," he said diplomatically.

"I was kind of thinking that," Anakin said dryly. "If she'd even answer a comm from me."

Luke was quiet for a long moment. "Would you want me to tell her instead?"

If it went as Luke was expecting, Anakin might be able to hear the reaction from his house anyway.

The relief was obvious in Anakin's expression. "Thank you, Luke," he said.

He searched around for a change in topic. "What classes are you taking?"

"Invasions, Spycraft, and Being Cool," Luke replied.

Anakin resisted the urge to facepalm. "Sounds interesting," he said faintly. "You're still keeping up with the lessons I've provided?"

Luke nodded. "I'm up for another sparring session whenever you're ready," he said. "I think I've managed to get most of Form I down."

Up went Anakin's eyebrow. "Whenever I'm ready, huh?" he commented. "Sometime this week. It wasn't like Paris gave me a great deal of time to practice the forms."

He made a shooing gesture towards Luke. "You have better things to do than sit in here with me."

Luke didn't really, but he recognized a dismissal when he heard one.

"I'll see you soon," he said, standing up and heading back to the dorms.
