Office hours [all day]

Anakin's door was wide open as bright, cheerful music spilled out into the hallway.

He wandered around his office, adding a new picture frame to his desk and grinning to himself every time he looked over at it.

If you knew him at all, you might fear for his sanity.

He had his reasons.

"It's open," Anakin commented, raising an eyebrow, "though you're a long way from the cafeteria if you're hungry."

Okay, so Fandom had mind readers. That threw Ferris off for a beat, but he recovered quickly. "I was thinking more for some of my newly found friends who have never tried hot dogs before." He slipped into his introduction routine. "I'm Ferris Bueller. I'm new in town, so I thought I'd stop by, say hello and get to know the faculty."

"...why?" Anakin asked. "We're not that interesting."

I may not have classes with all of you, but between extracurriculars," which he wasn't taking if he could help it, "and, well, the fact that this island may possibly have a population more insane than not, I thought it best to get to know the people in charge." Hot dogs. Hot dogs.

Anakin didn't look like he was buying this at all. "If you try to paint my office pink, you'll be dreaming of detention."

"Why would I paint your office pink? Is this a regular thing?" Although now he was wondering if it was worth finding out who did these office paintings.

"Hardly," Anakin said icily. "Ask around. I have a bit of reputation."

Pause.

"Don't ask Jamie Madrox."

"As much as I've come to enjoy Jamie's company in our short time of knowing each other, I suspect his opinions on the teaching staff are somewhat biased." Probably right, but somewhat biased.

Anakin didn't look particularly pleased to hear that the two had met. "So, Mr. Bueller, what brings you to our school?"

"My parents thought it best for my education if I went away to school so I could finish my senior year without any distractions. I don't think this was what they exactly had in mind unless they've developed a twisted sense of humor that I was previously unaware of or unless they found a time machine in our back yard. I think the twisted sense of humor is actually less likely than the time machine."

"Or they didn't read the brochure too closely in their excitement to have you leave," Anakin pointed out diplomatically. Ish.

Okay, meanly.

The thing about teachers at home, Rooney aside since the man clearly had issues, was that they always tried to toe the line between diplomacy and putting you in your place. It was distasteful and rarely ended well. This was a breath of fresh air. He liked the bluntness since, at least to him, it didn't seem like Professor Skywalker was trying to make himself feel more superior to Ferris by doing it. Ferris smiled and it was probably easy to pick up that he wasn't laughing at Anakin so much as being pleased that there was someone here who told it as it was. "My parents, bless their hearts, love me dearly. I think perhaps, jokes aside, it was the scholarship."

"Or the trolls," Anakin replied with a small smirk.

"There are trolls too?" he asked, surprised. "I suppose this shouldn't surprise me after the talking turtle and the fact that you could tell I was thinking about food. Is everything here designed to be strange and bewildering or is it a side effect of strange people living here? Not that I mind, but it's nice to know these things."

"It's kind of designed that way," Anakin admitted. "Once you accept that there can be an infestation of weetiny bunnies, it becomes kind of hard to phase people. Though the alien invasion at graduation took us by surprise."

Ferris reached up to straighten his hair. "I think it might be in my best interests, so I don't waste the entire semester being slack-jawed, to take every strange thing I'm told and accept it as if was a math class - simple and sensible considering the setting, but with me not entirely paying attention in order to keep my brain from dribbling out of my ear."

"If anyone tells you to jump off the roof, ignore them," Anakin recommended. "Gravity still works here."

"You looking out for my well-being, Professor?"

"I don't want to have to scrape up flattened student," Anakin replied.

"Then I'll do my best not to scramble my internal organs." He glanced back at the door. "I've taken up enough of your time. Thanks for seeing me."

Anakin gave him a small wave. "Try not to die."
