Anakin had a giant cup of coffee and no hope that Rory would be bouncing through the door with pastries.

He was Totally Okay with that. Really.

...just don't ask him.

Besides, he was far too busy fiddling with his lesson plans to notice who wasn't going to visit today.

The door was open.

"Gavin? Luke's friend Gavin?" Rory asked, blinking.

"Yes, and if Luke was taught at the same school, Jaina and her brothers might be my only shot at grandchildren."

"...wow," Rory replied. "That bad?"

"He wanted to know if feeling warm around her meant he was allergic," Anakin said, sighing.

That would be dead silence on the other end.

"...really?"

"I couldn't make this up if I tried," Anakin replied, chuckling softly.

"Wow," Rory said, blinking. "He's...how old?"

"Not twelve," Anakin replied.

"And people say I'm naive."

Anakin let his head thump back against the back of his chair. "I was this close to having to make visual aids," he whined. "Why, why would he come to me?"

"Because you're a grown-up," she said sardonically.

"But on this subject, I'm just as lost as the rest of them."

There was a pause. "I mean, I know that clothing is supposed to come off, which apparently puts me ahead of the rest of the boys from Tatooine..."

"Not always."

Rory was suddenly very glad Paris was out and Anakin couldn't see her.

Really, really long pause.

"I miss you," he said quietly.

Just as long a pause.

"I miss you too."

"Have you had any classes yet?" Anakin asked, striving for lightness and missing by a good mile.

"I had one of my writing courses yesterday," she replied happily.

"So are they shipping your Pulitzer this week or next?" he teased.

Rory laughed. "They're wiring the money, but the prize itself will be here in six to eight weeks."

"Will I be thanked in your speech?" Anakin asked, reaching for one of River's cookies.

"Maybe. If you're nice to me."

Anakin made an "eww" face as he bit down and reached quickly for his mug of coffee. "I've got some cookies here," he said. "I could share."

"The phone doesn't work like that, sweetie."

Anakin rapped one of the cookies experimentally against the desk. "I'm pretty sure these'll taste just the same if I mailed them."
