Anakin opened his office door.

And stared.

Someone had redecorated.

Anakin stomped around the office examining streamers on the ceiling and paint on the wall, then the glitter-bestrewned Farrah Fawcett poster, and finally flounced over to sit in his chair.

With its pink boa.

He waved a hand and started up his little galaxy of stars, then picked up a pen that had been decorated with feathers--all of his pens had been decorated with feathers, what the hell?--and hoped no one visited today.

Though that didn't seem very likely.

Anakin blinked. "Rhetorical question, right?"

She shrugged. "They're not actually related, but the frequency that Dad bothers Mom means they might have met."

Anakin pressed his lips together, clearly unimpressed by Christopher's priorities. "Maybe," he said diplomatically.

"I hope I get to spend some time with her," Rory said, mildly worried. "I barely ever see my little sister. Is that weird?"

"I'm really not the person to ask," Anakin said, blushing. "I didn't know I had family for 18 years."

"Which is why you've got to make up for lost time and be a good daddy to Luke," she said softly.

"I'd say I'll try but there's a nine-hundred year old dead Jedi Master in my head yelling at me about that choice of phrase," Anakin said, giving her a shy smile. "I'll do my best to be the father I never had and hope I don't screw it up any worse than I have already."

"You'll have help," she promised quietly, giving him a little smile. "Not that I can help...be a dad, but if he comes to you with something that makes you flaily, you can always call me. Not that I know what a normal upbringing is like either, but still."

"There won't be any more chats by cliffs, for one," Anakin said ruefully.

"Well, no," she agreed. "And maybe everyone can keep their hands."

Anakin pretended to mull that over. "Maaaybe..." he said, sounding uncertain.

"Only people we don't like can lose limbs," Rory suggested.

"I used to have a list," Anakin admitted.

"I have one," she said quietly.

Anakin's eyebrows rose. "Really?" he asked.

Pause.

"Am I on it?"

"Not anymore," she said, looking down.

Anakin went red to his ears.

"Oh," he said softly.

"Have you already forgotten how I was with you before I knew you were...you?" she asked, working out the wording. "When I thought you'd killed, um, you."

Anakin blushed harder. "No, no I knew that part," he said, focusing intently on his boots. "I didn't know I'd moved off of the list."

"You moved off the list awhile ago. Right now you're on a slightly less ragey one," she said, raising her brows.

Anakin gave her a mischievous smile, looking as young as his body suggested. "I know better than to ask how many highlighted and alphabetized lists you have."

She grinned. "Someday maybe you'll move back onto the prettiest and least highlighted list," she said playfully.

For just a heartbeat, there was nothing playful in Anakin's expression.

"Something to aim for," he said quietly.

Rory's smile faltered. "It's a pretty lofty goal from where you're sitting," she murmured.

"I have very little else to occupy my time," he replied, deliberately ignoring the part of his brain that was screaming at him to stop this right the hell now.
