Super Lumpy Bed, Fandom Clinic [Sunday morning]

Anakin woke up with a groan. It took him a good few minutes to even open his eyes, and he regretting it almost immediately once he did: the lights gave him a pounding migraine. Rory called for the clinic staff, and they gave him a brief rundown of what had happened (he was suddenly and intensely grateful for not being treated with a Fisher Price plastic doctor's kit) and how he'd once again been used like a battery to abet the Toymaker's schemes.

Jedi didn't hate but Anakin was prepared to make an exception for this guy.

When Rory and the kids had gotten enough hugs and reassurances that he'd be okay and had headed back home to leave him to rest up, he grabbed his comm and sent an island-wide email:

Not as dead as rumored. Classes will proceed as normal next week. -A. Skywalker

Aeryn was not typing that much to reply. She also was off island with her very worried husband and son who'd had no idea why she disappeared for a week.

So she called. Ring, ring.

Anakin answered the phone, sounding exhausted. "Skywalker."

"I'm very glad you're not actually dead."

No, seriously, she really really was.

"You and me both," Anakin said. "That was not a great week."

"How are you doing?" she asked.

"I'll be fine, but I'm going to be low on energy for a few days," Anakin said. "And I'm going to kill the Toymaker."

"As you should," Aeryn said, totally seriously. This earned it. "Of course you have help."

"I appreciate that," Anakin said sincerely. "How's John handling the bad part of your being back in Fandom?"

"He's not thrilled. Talyn's never had this happen before, so I'll be making it up to him for a while," she told him.

"Maybe not with an action figure," Anakin counseled.

"He's outgrown most of those, and I'm very grateful now," Aeryn said. "We'll have to settle for quality time."

Luckily he hasn't outgrown that yet.

"He's welcome to come to paintball later this month," Anakin offered.

"He'd destroy the adults." Except them.

Since Kanan had hauled the poor guy in, awkward though it was, he felt he probably ought to swing by during his lunch break to check and make sure Skywalker hadn't died overnight or anything.

"Still alive and kicking, huh?"

He'd brought pancakes, Anakin. With a pile of blueberries that probably remained in place mostly by virtue of cheating with the Force. Because anything was better than clinic food.

"Mmm," Anakin said, cracking his eyes back open. "Did you kill that guy?"

"Never got the chance to get close," Kanan replied, grimacing faintly. "Did a pretty good number on that droid they had you plugged into, though."

Like the world's most dramatic AA battery.

"Who the hell was that, anyway?"

"I call him 'That Frelling Asshole' but he goes by the Toymaker," Anakin said. "He likes to show up here every few years and mess with me. This is not the first time I've been a battery for his ridiculousness. At least this time I was unconscious."

"Somebody with the power to transform the entire island and everybody on it into mindwashed toys needs you as a battery?" Kanan raised an eyebrow slightly. "Did you tick him off or something?"

"I'm sure it'll come as a surprise to you that I've lost track of the number of people I've ticked off over the years," Anakin said, closing his eyes again.

"Yeah," Kanan said, with a soft huff that was almost a laugh, except so help him, he was
a little too tired for even that, "I'm shocked."

He made his way over and set the pancakes down within Anakin's reach.

"Brought food. Figured you'd need something that isn't clinic gelatin at some point." He fell silent a moment. "Glad you're not dead."

He had a lot of weird and complicated Jedi feelings, and they'd been stirred up in new and interesting ways back when they'd televised Anakin's walk to the junkyard.

"Glad not to be dead," Anakin said, smiling down at the pancakes. "Thank you for this. And for--" he gestured vaguely, "--un-batterying me and so on."

"Human battery would be a terrible way to go after surviving so much other poodoo," Kanan replied, giving a vague gesture of his own in reply. "But... yeah. I wasn't about to leave you there, either."

"Appreciate it," he said, digging into the pancakes. "I feel like I haven't eaten in a week."

"You and everyone else," Kanan replied, smiling wryly. "Plastic isn't great for the appetite." A pause. "And if there's anything else you need, let me know."

"Thanks," Anakin said. "I think I should be okay. Just need to recharge."

Anakin was under the impression he was secretly hilarious.
