The door was cracked open.

"Y'know," Dean said, leaning against the door jamb when he came in, "you really need to work on your phone manners."

The coffee mug on Vader's desk shattered completely of its own accord.

Except not.

"And you need to work on your tone," Vader snapped back.

"Neat trick," Dean said, eyeing the broken mug. If he was the least cowed by Vader's display of temper, he didn't show it. "You must go through a hell of a lot of dishes if you get riled up that easily." He moved further into the room and sprawled in the chair across from Vader's desk unasked. "So what's this whole mentor thing all about? Because, no offense, but I'm not sure what it is you can teach me."

Vader waved a finger and the chair Dean was sprawled in tipped forward suddenly.

"Let's start with respect. You stand unless otherwise directed."

Dean caught his balance before he ended up sprawled on the floor. "Yeah, because demanding respect instead of earning it works so well."

"I am Sith," Vader snarled. "Most beings cower in fear at the sight of me."

There was a clearly implied "so what the hell's the matter with you?" in that sentence.

"I'm not most beings," Dean said with a smirk. "I'm a Winchester. We don't do cowering in fear."

Vader shot a vase across the room to explode against a wall. "All beings fear!" he shouted. "Discover what they fear to lose and you discover the key to controlling them."

Quite the mentor, this guy.

"Dude, do you end up with ankle deep pottery shards in here every day?" Dean asked curiously.

"I'm not allowed to kill people."

"You've got definite anger management issues," Dean pointed out the obvious.

"And the sun rises in the east on this planet," Vader said with a practically audible eye roll. "My hatred makes me powerful."

He'd read that in the Sith brochure.

"Powerful wasn't exactly the word I would've chosen."

"Terrifying?" Vader tried.

"Obnoxious."

[sith_happened]

"Detention," Vader countered.

Yeah, Dean figured he was going to get that, considering. He didn't react beyond rolling his eyes. "Yeah, because that makes you less obnoxious."

"I do not seek to be liked," Vader said.

That was pretty obvious.

"And I am not obnoxious."

That...was open for debate.

"Anyone who keeps going on about how everyone should fear them and how great hatred is is going to come off as obnoxious," Dean said. "And not a little overbearing."

Overbearing was Vader's bread and butter.

"It works just fine back at home," he muttered.

"Yeah, well, this is Fandom. People tend to call you on it here."

"They might call me on it at home, too," Vader said. "But then they die."

There was a pause.

"It should work that way here."

"Tough," Dean shot back. "Maybe you should stop going on about how they do things 'back home' and find ways that work here. More productive than breaking pottery."

"What part of 'I'm evil' am I not putting out there correctly for you, you stupid little boy?" Vader snapped. "I don't make concessions. I bend others to my will. It is the way of the Sith."
