Office hours [all day]

Anakin arrived early on Tuesday morning, hoping to get his paperwork done quickly enough to sneak in a flight simulator check before he had to pick Juliet up from camp.

Of course, that was before his office started raining kumquats, so the timeline had been pushed back slightly...

"Are we bonding over things we have in common now?" Atton wondered. "I don't like it."

"It's creepy," Anakin agreed.

"But yeah," Atton said, "Taking on these two Sith Lords is something I can't see myself walking out of."

"The odds aren't great," Anakin admitted. "Cheat. Cheat like crazy. They will."

"Oh, trust me, I know," Atton said. "I used to be part of the Sith, remember? And I was good at it because I'm great at cheating."

"I went with brute force," Anakin said, "because I had it."

Atton snorted. "That doesn't surprise me," he said.

He was so good at pretending to be someone else in order to throw people off or get in close, he didn't even really know who he was anymore.

Anakin shrugged. "I taught an apprentice how to yank a Star Destroyer from the sky. Finesse was for other people."

"Like you," Anakin said. "Are you going into this thing alone? Because if so, I'm going to yell."

"Nah, I'm not that stupid," Atton said. "We've got a Miraluka ex-Sith, this freaky Handmaiden from Telos, the Zabrak engineer, Mira, that dweepy stoopa Republic archivist or whatever he is, the old lady, a bunch of droids - and the Exile. That's... y'know, something."

Ring any bells yet, Anakin?

Anakin's jaw dropped. "Stang. This is you?"

"...Yes?" Atton said. "I mean, it's not exactly what jumps to mind when you think 'army to take on a Sith Lord'..."

"I'm not paid to be--" Anakin frowned. "All right, I'm paid to be helpful, but I don't want to mess up the timeline."

"Oh, so whatever is going on is big enough to make you remember your history," Atton said. He dropped his head back in his seat - and immediately had to jump up before a kumquat clobbered him. "Damn it!"

Anakin didn't quite get his hand up fast enough to cover his snicker. "Concentrate," he said with a little smile. "Tap into the Living Force."

Atton let out an irritated huff. "Jedi talk, great," he muttered, but he tried to put in some concentration.

Some parts of this came more naturally to him than others; his greatest talent laid more in the area of telepathy and, even moreso, fending off telepathy.

"Better," Anakin said. "It'll turn into second nature," he added as kumquats bounced away from his desk. "Like background noises and emotions."

"Maybe," Atton said dubiously, though at least the next two kumquats bounced off his head. Living Force. Okaaay. Whatever it was, concentrating seemed to keep these things from beaning him upside the head. "Look, it's been like 24 hours, I'm allowed to have some trouble here, all right?"

He was heading into that with this little training? Anakin winced slightly. "Well, my oldest son did more with less. His version of training was basically 'pointy end of the 'saber away from you, trust the Force, bye'."

He'd been running into this with no training at all for a while, now. "We're still working on it," Atton said. "It's kind of hard juggling Force training with running around getting shot at, as you can imagine."

"I'm good at reading people and keeping them out of my head," Atton said lightly. "Always have been, or I wouldn't have been able to fly past your radar out here for as long as I did, but obviously there's... more... of that now."
