Office hours [all day]

Anakin arrived early on Tuesday morning, hoping to get his paperwork done quickly enough to sneak in a flight simulator check before he had to pick Juliet up from camp.

Of course, that was before his office started raining kumquats, so the timeline had been pushed back slightly...

Atton knocked on his door, then leaned in the doorway. "Fruit trouble?" he drawled.

"Why would you think that?" Anakin asked just as dryly.

Atton waved his hand and a kumquat curved just away from him.

Huh. Neat. At least that was worth something. "You got an umbrella?"

"I have the Force," Anakin said with a little smirk towards Atton's kumquat. "And, if necessary, the janitor's number."

Atton rolled his eyes and stepped into the room, shutting the door behind him.

Keeping kumquats away from his head was probably a valuable Force training or something, whatever. "You're so clever," he drawled.

"I have my moments," Anakin agreed, closing his eyes and chasing the squirrels away with a nudge from the Force.

"So," Atton said, sliding into a seat in front of him.

"So," Anakin echoed, a hint of wariness in his eyes. This wasn't a story he was particularly proud of telling. "What would you like to know?"

Atton chose his words carefully. Or at least pointedly, with emphasis.

"What did you do, Skywalker?"

"Turned to the dark side," Anakin said baldly. "Became a Sith Lord. Killed most of the Order personally."

"Wow," Atton said, after a beat. "You're even more of a hypocrite than I thought."

He batted another kumquat against the wall with the Force. He was getting the hang of this.

Anakin shrugged. "It's not an experience I'm exactly going to shout from the rooftops."

"No, because going by the precedent you've set, if someone finds out and shouts it from the rooftops, you're going to have to arrest yourself," Atton said dryly.

"They think I'm dead," Anakin said. "Try that next time. Saves on hassle for everyone."

"That's an impressive get-out-of-jail free card," Atton muttered. "The Jedi bounce back from that, too?"

"It turned out that my old Master, in an amazing display of passive-aggressive behavior, took the son I didn't know had survived back to my home planet, named him Skywalker and basically dared me to show back up while he turned into a sad desert hermit," Anakin said. "I didn't."

"No heart for romance, Skywalker?" Atton drawled.

"Not really a Sith trademark, no," Anakin replied. "Plus he'd left me limbless and on fire..."

"Sounds like a Jedi and Sith thing all right," Atton said lightly. "But I don't doubt you deserved it."

"Oh, it was entirely personal, there at the end," Anakin said quietly, "and I deserved it."

"Guess there was a reason for that no-intimacy Jedi thing, huh," Atton said.

Oh lord, Atton, don't go there.

"Then what happened?"

"The Sith Lord found me, stuck me in a suit that helped me to breathe and gave me arms and legs again, and I spent twenty years tracking down the rest of the Jedi and bringing order and terror to the galaxy, hating everything and everyone."

That was one bad break-up.

"Sounds like fun."

Anakin rolled his eyes. "Yep," he said dryly. "Hard to believe I decided not to do that the rest of my life."

"So what happened to your 'Master'?" Atton asked.

He didn't make the air quotes, but they were definitely there.

He then had to duck as one kumquat nearly beaned him upside the head. Space. He really needed to master this telekinesis poodoo, fast.
