Office hours [all day]

After spending a few hours thumping Ben around the gym in the morning, Anakin headed to his office with his bad feeling still hanging over him like a cloak.

He pretended to keep busy, but it was difficult to pay attention to anything when his eyes kept tracking towards his door, hoping to see Leia coming through it.

He was prepared to ~~repress like a mofo~~ talk to anyone else who needed his attention in the meantime, though.

"Not a documentary, I take it," Anakin said.

"I did not look too closely and thought perhaps it was, but it was not," Raven said, shaking her head. "It was about detectives searching for a man who was committing crimes based on the deadly sins. He killed people in very horrific ways."

Anakin made a face. "Not a movie to watch with Rory on date night," he noted. "Are you all right?"

Well, the one time Raven had watched a horror movie with her boyfriend had ended very nicely, but she wasn't about to share that bit of TMI with Anakin.

"I had a restless night after seeing the movie," Raven admitted. "But I am all right. I know what the sins are, of course, especially since we covered them in your class, but I had never thought they could be used against people in such cruel ways. I find it distressing to think that my brothers are likely capable of that kind of cruelty." Unspoken was and herself.

"I think they probably revel in that kind of cruelty," Anakin said, "based on the first impression they left me with."

"Why do they not resist my father's influence as I do?" Raven said. Not that she always succeeded, but at least she tried, and she still believed there was goodness in everyone. Well, almost everyone.

"They probably don't see the point in it," Anakin guessed.

"Their desire for power is greater than any compassion," Raven murmured in agreement. "But they are half-human, like myself. They must have souls. I should be thinking of ways to save them."

"But we should also hedge our bets," Anakin replied bluntly. "Not everyone wants to be saved."

"They would use my desire to help them to trick me," Raven said sadly. "How do I know if they are truly lost, or if there is any good in them?"

"That's a question you should probably ask my son," Anakin said with a little smile. "He's done this sort of thing before."

"He found the good in someone, you mean?"

Raven would never have made the leap about it being Anakin Luke had done that with because she was still quite in denial about Anakin having an evil past, thank you very much.

Anakin smiled. "Me, so I guess you can say he has a specialty in rehabilitating family members."

Anakin was so terribly mean not to let Raven live in her denial!

"But you were not as they are," she said, frowning.

"Oh, I was worse," Anakin said easily. "All of their faults in just one person."

Maybe not the lust.

Raven shook her head. She didn't think Anakin would lie to her, but she was still having a hard time believing he could have possibly been as evil as her father. "I am still struggling to understand what you said to me before about your past," she confessed. "I cannot believe that it is possible for you to have been worse than they, or my father."

"I enslaved billions," Anakin said quietly, "and didn't have being a demon to excuse me for it."

Raven could have happily believed he was exaggerating his past deeds, but specifics were harder to deny. "Why?" she whispered.

"Because I was completely consumed by the Dark Side," Anakin said, "and my master commanded it of me."

"Master" made Raven twitch; there was a reason she always called him professor rather than that title. "How could such a thing happen?" she said. "You have always warned me about the Dark Side." She just didn't think he'd been speaking from personal experience.

"I was very, very stupid, and very angry," Anakin said. "It was a potent and lethal combination."

"You were manipulated by someone," Raven said, then added, more than a little hopefully, "Like my father did with me?"

"Nothing so overt," Anakin said. "The Emperor took an interest in me early in my life and told me what I wanted to hear."

"How long were you like that?" Raven asked hesitantly. She'd been evil for two days, and that had left her with enough guilt to last a lifetime.

"Almost twenty years," Anakin said quietly.
