Office hours [all day]
Anakin had been quite excited to start in on one of the new books he'd picked up at the Georgetown Barnes and Noble the other day (he knew his wife very well and had gone there for a jumpstart on a Valentine's Day gift). Books about military strategy and politicians getting their comeuppance were his favorite.
Which was why he was a little nonplussed to discover his military history book now had a half-clothed man on the front, holding up a woman who was wearing far too little clothing to escape unsunburnt. He was not reading Taming the Desert Sun, thank you very much.
The door was open. The book was not.

"I haven't said it lately, but I hate this town," she announced casually from the doorway.

Except when he ran out of soap and used Rory's vanilla-scented body wash. But that was only in emergencies.

"No," she said, a little alarmed because she hadn't even thought about that. "Which is good, because I would have probably thrown something and gotten a hotel on the mainland."

He could tease. He didn't live there.

"They were little soldiers, and Juliet put a Skywalker spin on it," Rory added.

"Hi," she said. "Can I come in?"
She was tired, but there was a low thrum of excitement underneath. This weekend had opened some doors; she wasn't sure how safe any of them were, but she wanted to know.

"I was using magic this weekend," she said. "Safely, not anything where it would be dangerous. Just some counterspells. But there were three of us, and that ... that felt safer, to me. To use more of it."
This was helpful exposition that was going to totally let Anakin know what was going on. Seriously.

"We were somewhere called Louisiana," she said. "A vampire lost his memory, because some witch was putting a spell on him. So there were three of us, trying to dispel that magic and disrupt it."
She bit her lip before adding, "I can ... use some without it being dangerous. There's so much that it's just ... part of me. Right there where I can call it up, without ... you know."
In case he thought she'd been flirting with disaster. She might have been, but if so, that part came later in the story, anyway.

Some magic seemed to crackle whenever she flexed her fingers.
