Cartoon Cuts [Virginia Suburbia, early evening]

It was time for Juliet's first haircut--her blonde curls had stopped being adorable and had started getting knotted. And being sixteen months old meant that a patient and careful comb-through was not in the cards.

So there the three of them were in a brightly lit children's barber shop: Anakin, toting Juliet and Rory toting the camera.

Anakin was looking for the most competent person in the shop. Juliet was looking at the cartoons.

"Dora!"

"Mine," Juliet insisted, while Rory replied, "We'll see."

He reached out to tousle Juliet's curls. "Let's see if we can find some ice cream, then. They might be out."

Mean, Anakin.

"Gone?" Juliet asked, eyes wide and starting to well up.

This was why Anakin only had an ironically given "Father of the year" mug.

"Not gone," he backtracked hastily. "I'm sure they'll get more!"

Juliet sniffled, eyeing him. "More? Eye cream now," she said sadly.

"Ice cream now," he promised. "Lots of ice cream! And cookies!"

Stop overcompensating, Anakin.

"Cake," Juliet suggested, perking up.

"We'll see," Anakin replied, smiling. "Ice cream and cookies should be enough."

"Cake eye cream," Juliet decided, inventing a brand new thing (she thought)!

"That sounds delicious," Anakin decided, letting his eyes sparkle at Rory over Juliet's head.

"And original," Rory added with a nod.

Anakin laughed. "Very. Maybe she'll be an ice cream designer when she gets a little older. Go into business with Ben."
