Rocky Bits [Tuesday afternoon]

The fog that had met him when he'd arrived earlier hadn't burned off as the sun grew warmer, and the niggling bad feeling in the back of Anakin's mind hadn't disappeared either, so after a productive morning of traumatizing students, Anakin went out for a quick patrol around the island, Jedi senses alert for anything that seemed out of place.

Well, other than the fog, of course.

He did a circuit around the perimeter, then climbed to the top of the Rocky Bits, hoping to be able to see over the fog.

No luck.

"I have a bad feeling about this," he said to himself.

[OOC: For one!]

After he finished class, Max wandered out into the fog. He'd planned to do... well, something productive. Maybe grab something to eat and work on lesson plans (yeah, right). But the fog was... disconcerting.

Of course a lot of things about Fandom were disconcerting, and weather was weird at the best of times, so he wasn't really all that worried about things. Despite the tingling sensation at the back of his neck. He figured he could find someone with more experience on island, Ghani maybe, and ask whether he should be worried.

But while Max didn't plan to do anything about the fog, it was odd enough that he was distracted, and somehow got turned around. And now he realized that he was nearing the top of the Rocky Bits.

He shrugged to himself. Well, he'd come this far, he might as well see if the fog was any thinner that high up.

Max froze, shoulders tensing. He'd heard... something. The time he'd spent walking around in the fog meant that whatever it was it didn't sound human at all. His head swiveled slowly as he tried to peer through the fog and see what it was.

It could be completely docile and harmless, after all.

The fog didn't have to cloud Max's senses regarding how dangerous the thing coming toward Max was. And there Max was without a weapon. He scowled and looked around, kind of hoping that a sword would just be there or something.

Not that a sword would be all that useful against a lightsaber, but how was he to know that?

"Hello," he offered, trying to sound friendly and soothing.

[identity profile] furious-maximus.livejournal.com 2010-03-23 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Whatever it was sounded quite dangerous, but Max could take care of himself. Right? Of course he could.

And some of his students couldn't. So, clearly, it was Max's job to see if the dangerous-sounding thing was a threat or not. Which is why he moved toward it, still wishing he were armed.

"Come on out... This doesn't have to get violent..."

[identity profile] furious-maximus.livejournal.com 2010-03-23 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Max spun at the sound. It was a... He had no idea what it was. It had multiple heads, though, and all of them looked particularly unfriendly.

"My, my, aren't we the ugly one?" Max taunted, beginning to circle to his left in an attempt to get a better look at the thing. From where he was standing, Max didn't think the whatever it was looked too bright.

[identity profile] furious-maximus.livejournal.com 2010-03-23 05:10 pm (UTC)(link)
One should not underestimate... things. Especially with multiple heads. Max was reminded of that fact by said kick. He stumbled backward, the breath whuffing out of him.

It took him a second to regain his balance, but when he did, he shook his head slowly. "And here I was going to go easy on you." He held out one hand and made a terribly cliched beckoning gesture. "Come on, then."

[identity profile] furious-maximus.livejournal.com 2010-03-23 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Max thought he was ready for anything, but the multi-headed whatever it was in front of him was apparently also telekinetic or something. He stumbled backwards again, managing to stop himself a few feet from the edge, and scowled.

That did it. No more Mister Nice Centurion. "If that's how you want to play it," Max growled as he reached out for his earthcrafting and manipulated the rocks beneath his attacker's feet, causing them to grow soft and viscous. Almost like mud, except they were still rocks.

[identity profile] furious-maximus.livejournal.com 2010-03-23 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Max really hadn't expected something as big and awkward looking as the monster he was fighting to be so dang nimble. He was still frowning as the rock came hurtling toward his head and just barely managed to duck before it hit him.

"Hey, now!" he yelled in outrage. Max took advantage of his low position ducking the rock to scoop up a sizable one of his own from the ground. He took a moment to draw on his earthcrafting again before hurling the rock at the thing's head with superhuman strength. Well, one of them.

Two could play at that game.

[identity profile] furious-maximus.livejournal.com 2010-03-23 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
What the--? The thing had jumped before Max had even let go of the rock. That was not good. Max was going to have to stop playing around.

This time he was ready as the wave of force slammed into him, and he managed to keep his balance with only a minimal amount of stumbling around. Then Max concentrated on his windcrafting and summoned up a massive column of air which he threw at the annoying and dangerous jumpy thing.

Max's instructors had always despaired of teaching him fine control with wind, but this was a simple brute force attack. And Max was really good at brute force.

[identity profile] furious-maximus.livejournal.com 2010-03-23 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Judging by the enraged gibbering, Max's attack must have been pretty on-target. Not on-target enough, though, since there was a boulder heading for his face.

Max dived to the side, getting clear of the boulder, but landing close enough to the edge to need to windmill his arms for balance. Still, all he had to do was take care of the multi-headed thing and he could get away from the loose rocks. So he gathered his the air again and slammed it forward. The whatever-it-was was close enough to the edge that one good push would probably send it over, and that would be that.

"Got you!" he yelled prematurely triumphantly as another column of air blasted out.

He hoped.

Max had half a second to enjoy a triumphant grin as he watched the thing lose its footing and soar off the cliff. Then he got hit by its return strike and his expression was suddenly much less pleased.

As he hurtled toward the rocks Max had two thoughts. First, at least he'd managed to take out the multi-headed thing. Because as nimble as it was, it hadn't shown any ability to fly. Second, he wished he'd managed to master the use of windcrafting for flight, because this was going to suck.

Just before he hit the water, Max frowned as he wondered why he was suddnely thinking about that violent hothead Anakin...
