Office hours [all day]

Vader hadn't slept well, and being awakened by the Emperor's face was a guarantee towards having a terrible day.

So he was in his office, and in a Mood.

Not that this was terribly different than most days, but at least today he had a legitimate excuse for being annoyed.

"I understand there is a fan club," Vader replied dryly.

"Yes, we sit around in our 'We heart Vader' T-shirts and take turns writing you fan mail. Then we write little stories about you and circulate photographs. We're currently at work on a calendar."

"I am not posing in a swimsuit," he replied. "I do not care how many times Mister Krycek writes to me."

"Oh, well, Alex should really lay off. I'm president, after all, so expect a few dozen emails from me begging you to do so," she said.

"For you, anything," Vader replied, completely deadpan.

"Be still my fluttering heart," Rory said flatly.

Vader stared at her for a hair too long. "That could be arranged," he said, but it was obvious that he didn't really mean the threat.

Rory looked at him, confused, and shook her head to clear it. "I brought you a gift, anyway."

"I'm not wearing the tie for the calendar either," Vader said.

Rory pulled something (http://www.wearmoi.co.uk/acatalog/paloma_man_scoop.jpg) out of her bag. "A tutu?" she asked. "It's in your color."

Vader stared at the gift, then at Rory.

Then at the gift again.

"What. The. Hell?"

"It's something that respected elders wear on this planet," she said seriously.

"It's not," Vader replied flatly.

"Yes, it is."

Evil Sith Lords don't say "Nuh-uh."

He was thinking it really loudly, though.

"It's not," he repeated, voice going a little icy.

"It is," she said stubbornly.

Okay, today was not a high point in the maturity of Darth Vader.

Neither was it one in the maturity of Rory Gilmore, but to be fair, she was a good twenty-odd years younger.

"I've" --been to this planet before would be bad-- "been doing research," Vader snapped. "And I've never seen anyone wearing this."

"Have you been hanging out with kings or popes?" Rory asked. "It's a huge, huge sign of respect."

Force, I miss you, a traitorous part of Vader whispered.

Aloud, he said, "You're not going to convince me, Miss Gilmore."

"It's very rude to reject someone's gift when they're just trying to be respectful," Rory said indignantly.

Vader snorted. "I hardly think you are giving me a gift because of the respect you have for me."

"I want to be your friend, and friends respect each other," she said with a bit of a challenging look.

"Really," Vader said, his tone getting sharper. "That has not been my experience. And the tutu isn't convincing me."
