Vader was in his office, unpacking his latest collection of breakable things from Ikea.

Amazing, really, how many he'd broken over the last few months.

Except not really.

The door was open.

"Precisely," Vader said. "And given the history of the Sith--which is not dissimilar--the Emperor should have...more consideration."

And that was as close to a scathing indictment of the Emperor's plans as Vader would ever come outside the comfort of his own head.

"Oh really. The Sith came back from seeming defeat?"

"The Jedi, in their arrogance, thought we had been defeated for millennia," Vader said in tones of deep satisfaction. "They were very much mistaken."

Schrodinger smiled. "How very like us. How very much like us. Did I mention who said that thing I quoted?"

"You did not," Vader said.

"You're a smart man," Schrodinger said. "Can you guess?"

"This Major of yours," Vader decided.

Schrodinger smiled. "I had a feeling you'd guess. Did you enjoy the Doctor's company in his stead?"

Vader nodded. "It was enlightening."

Schrodinger nodded. "He does not quite share the Major's tactical genius or vision, but is a very interesting person in his own right."

"Such beings are always useful," Vader agreed.

Schrodinger nodded. "I have a question. Not from the Major or the Doctor, but from me."

"Go ahead," Vader commanded.

"Where does the name "Darth Vader" come from?"

"My master gave it to me," Vader replied. "Darth is a Sith title."

He paused. "I realize that it translates strangely on this planet."

Schrodinger nodded. "Yes. In my tongue, it does not translate into a particularly fearsome word. In fact, it translates to a rather benign word."

Vader had a bad feeling about this. "Which word?"

Schrodinger rolled his shoulders a little, stretching them out.

"Father. Darth Father."

Vader was grateful for the mask. It hid the boggling.

"Hardly," he said, his voice scathing.

Schrodinger bowed. "I would not lie to you, Herr Vader. The word means 'father'." He smiled. "Quite a coiencidence, given how very much Luke hates you for the murder of his father."

"Indeed," Vader replied, mind racing. Could the Emperor have known that early about...of course not. Luke wouldn't have lived this long.

"I've killed a lot of people's fathers," he continued. "Skywalker shouldn't take it personally."

Schrodinger shrugged. "I wouldn't know. I don't have a father. Merely a creator."

He bowed again. "I have class soon. I'll leave you to your decorating. Guten tag, Herr Vader."
