Anakin was in his office looking over the schematics Ben had gotten for him (after some serious negotiating with Lando Calrissian, apparently. Anakin didn't remember him being that hard to convince. Then again, at the time Anakin had been talk, dark, and Sithy. Details) of a nanny droid.

With four arms. And multiple laser guns hidden on her body. He wondered if Zoe and Cable might be interested in one as well.

...now to convince Rory that this was a lot like an Ewok nanny....

Jaina was still hungover, so when she passed by the hallway, she'd been really really hoping that the door wouldn't be open, because then he'd be there and he'd know if she tried to escape before he saw her.

She sighed, made sure her mental walls were up as high as possible so he woudn't be able to peek in on anything she didn't want him to, and hoped she didn't look as bad as she felt when she popped into the doorway, greeting him with, "You're back in the office." Today of all days.

"I am," he replied. "I was planning on heading down to the flight shed in a bit to reconfigure it for class next week, but I had things to do here first."

Jaina was completely silent for a moment. "I think that can wait," she decided.

"Why?" Anakin asked. "I'm not planning on coming back to the island for the rest of the week."

"Because I haven't seen you in here for a while. People might need to talk to you," she reasoned.

"Because I'm so personable," Anakin replied, blinking. "Very well. I'll stay here a little longer. How was your mission home?"

"Bad," she said, coming in to take a seat. It felt better to sit. "Everything worked out fine, but it was bad. I'm sure you're shocked."

Anakin's lips pressed together. "Bad intel?"

She shook her head. "The intel was fine. We just kept running into delays and that gave the Vong enough time to ambush us."

"How many did you lose?" Anakin asked.

[solo_sword]

"I couldn't even tell you," she replied. "There were a lot of casualties, but it was also civilians and prisoners. It was a mess."

"What were you trying to accomplish?" he asked.

[solo_sword]

"We had a raid on Ylesia that failed a few months ago. The Peace Brigade- the same group that sold out Yavin 4 to the Vong- had their capital there, so our goal was to remove the Peace Brigaders, bring in those that needed to be prosecuted, and destroy the capital. More a symbolic victory for the media than anything," she explained. "Jacen's idea."

Gibbs knocked on the door frame. "You busy?"

"Nothing that can't wait a bit," Anakin said, waving Gibbs in. "What do you need?"

"Wanted to talk to you about your grandson," Gibbs replied. "He's a good kid. Smart."

"Why do I sense a 'but...' coming?" Anakin replied.

"This Jedi... thing," Gibbs replied frowning slightly. "He says it has him acting as a cop. He seems a little young for it."

"He is a little young for it," Anakin said flatly, "but I'm not allowed to have a say in it. Not my universe. He's been given adult responsibilities for a year and a half, and it's impossible to take those back."

"Huh."

He paused a minute before shrugging. "All right. I'll ask it. What the heck is a Jedi?"

"An Order that's been in existence for more than 10,000 years," Anakin said. "We're charged with bringing peace and justice to the galaxy. Ben's interest in police work comes from a genuine need to do right."

"Right. The galaxy," Gibbs said scratching his head. "Kind of like a military service?"

Like the marines. With robes. He could deal with that concept.

"We start a little younger, but the dedication is the same," Anakin said, nodding.

"So is this a voluntary thing or mandated?" Gibbs asked trying not to be overbearing. "The kid has a lot of potential, I'd hate to see that he was forced into anything."

"Completely voluntary," Anakin said, "but the ability to be a Jedi at all runs in families. It's especially strong with Skywalkers."
