If it looked like Anakin hadn't been getting a lot of sleep lately, well...he hadn't been getting a lot of sleep lately.

Nightmares were a pain. After spending far too much time close to home, he finally headed back to the island, hoping a new location might help him shake the bad feeling he had.

Five minutes into sitting in his office and he'd already decided it wasn't really working. He began tinkering with the holoprojector for something to do with his hands.

The door was open.

Well, he was a parent and an alumni so that counted, right? And he had a cute son with him! Totally counted.

"Look Talyn, there is a very old man," John said as he appeared in the doorway.

Anakin looked up, a grin splitting his face. "Talyn, don't listen to your father," he said, standing up and walking over. "He's delusional."

"Don't tell my son lies," John said, faking consternation. "He has to know that his daddy is always right."

"That's part of the deal, too?" Anakin laughed. "Luke's going to be upset to hear that. Welcome back."

"Thanks!" John said happily. "We got in yesterday but mostly just got settled. Why are you in the office? Pregnancy making Rory go crazy?"

"You know I can't answer that in a way that won't get me in trouble," Anakin said. "It's been a week without classes. I'm pretty sure I was getting under foot, so I gave her a break. Besides, J,GOB is here and she's had a thing for pastries."

"Smart man," John said, bouncing Talyn a little. "How'd the semester go? Put the fear of God into anyone fun?"

"A couple," Anakin admitted with a slightly fiendish grin. "I have a kid who still thinks everyone can be turned away from their evil path with hugs and understanding. I was pretty sure one Blair in the multiverse was enough."

"So," Anders said, poking his head through the doorway, "how'd the zombie fighting go? I meant to ask."

"...hugs and understanding?" John repeated. "Okay, I'm one of the most optimistic people around and even I know that's bull. Has that person tried to hug someone with a gun?"

Anakin rolled his eyes. "He has healing ability, too. It's a ridiculously dangerous combination."

"We had to make a pact with the gremlins to get them to help us defeat them," Anakin said, wrinkling up his nose. "Fandom."

"Oh, that'll be a nice mess when he meets the wrong person," John said and laughed when Talyn burbled his agreement. "I think he wants Uncle Anakin to hold him."

John spoke baby, you see.

Anakin grinned. "Does he?" he held his hands out. "He has excellent taste. I'm thinking of tossing the kid into a simulation of Palpatine at his most endearing. Getting Force-tossed around and zapped a few times should knock some of the shiny off of his ideals before he goes out and gets himself killed."

John carefully passed Talyn over to see Anakin.

"Hey, I had to learn," John said, nodding. "And it was painful but I'm not as dumb anymore. Aeryn would disagree but alas. Married life. It's an adventure."

"Hard to believe it's been almost a year since our wedding," Anakin said with another smile. His students would hardly recognize him as he babbled happily back at Talyn.

"My responsibility to the students is to make them ready for whatever they're facing back home. A kid who won't believe in true evil is a liability to himself."

"Yeah, I saw some footage from the whole aftermath of that," Anders said, and hastily added, "Nothing of you, man, don't worry. How've you been?"

"Is he just idealistic or deluded?" John wondered.

"Idealistic," Anakin said after a brief pause. "And Force knows Luke has a habit of seeing what he wants to, as well, but he learned the hard way it's not always a happy ending. This student needs the same lesson."

A pause. "Without the effects of Force-lightning, if possible. I think Zoe would get unhappy about students who come out of the Danger Room slightly singed."

"Busy," Anakin said with a smile. "After zombies, we were hit with the annual invasion of tiny, impossible children. And then we had finals. How's LA?"

"Who says she has to know?" John wondered. Hey, he wasn't a student anymore, he could be devious even if Principal Winchester scared the crap out of him.

"Her step-son dates the student I'm thinking of," Anakin said. "I'm pretty sure it would get back to her."

"Oooooh, yeah, that's a wrench in the plan," John said. "How many children does she have now? She seems to have a new one each time I come back."

Anders laughed. "Lemme guess, the kids all fed 'em sugar again and finals week they were all worn out. Gods, I'm talking like I'm twice their age and it hasn't been that long. LA is . . . well, it's never not interesting, I'll say that. Sometimes I wonder how the hotel's still standing. How're you and Rory?"

"Dean and Sam and little Grace," Anakin said. "She doesn't seem to have the same issue I do of random relatives showing up every school year." He wrinkled up his nose. "This new one calls me Granddad."
