Office hours [after the staff meeting]

Anakin was reminding himself (over and over again) that a little light smiting would not really make him feel better.

If this...issue...continued on the cruise, he was fairly certain Rory was going to toss him overboard. And he wouldn't stop her.

He reached his office and looked around for Peter.

Peter came by with coffee and looked around for Anakin.

"Coffee!" Anakin greeted him.

"Good guess," Peter said. He held out the cup he'd brought for Anakin.

Anakin took it from him with a small smile and ushered him into the office. "Jedi," he said. "We train for decades on our observational powers."

Peter took a seat. "I'll have to try hot chocolate sometime and see if you notice."

"I'll notice," Anakin assured him, taking a sip from his cup. "My wife has a--" slight obsession with, "--fondness for coffee. I've been trained well."

"Even if it was mocha?" Peter asked.

"Mocha isn't coffee or hot chocolate," Anakin decided, "and tends to be too sweet for me."

It shouldn't be hugely shocking that Anakin preferred his coffee black.

"Depends on if I'm in the mood," Peter said. Since coffee was the important lesson of the day.

"I'm hardly ever in the mood for whipped cream and chocolate," Anakin said.

Which led his mind down a decidedly unwelcome path for this particular week.

"Depends on the situation," Peter said. His mind had been stuck on that path for a while now, sadly.

Anakin's eyebrow arched up. "Anyway. Did you use the weeks between our last meeting productively?"

"I've been practicing," Peter said. "I think I'm getting the hang of it."

"Good," Anakin said. "Let's see it, then."

This week was murder on nice, normal phrases.

"If I'm doing it right doesn't that mean you won't see it?" Peter replied. Though admittedly there were a lot of potential negatives with regards to talking about invisibility. Regardless, Peter had his mental shields up and was still easy to see.

Anakin quirked a very tiny smile. "Much better," he said, reaching out with the Force to give the shield a good shove.

Peter managed to hold it in place and still stay visible.

"Impressive," Anakin replied. "Now, holding your shield in place, try to take mine down."

Peter hadn't tried this before, but he was up for the attempt. He tried to mimic what Anakin had done but from the other side. He managed to keep his shield up, the attack was not as strong.

"Welcome to a new form of fighting," Anakin said, pushing back against Peter's attack with no apparent effort. "To everyone else, it looks like a really intense staring contest. But really, getting inside your opponent's head can be more of a killing stroke then attack them physically."

"I'm not sure I want to," Peter admitted.

"Don't think everyone with these kinds of abilities will have that same sense of nobility," Anakin warned. "Even at this school." He paused. "Perhaps especially at this school. A good nudge back is a pretty effective 'hey, stop it.'"

"I don't want to violate someone's mind," Peter said, having no idea of how much irony was built in to a Petrelli saying something like that.

But it's so convenient... "I understand," Anakin replied. "Have you ever heard that the best defense is a good offense?"

"Violate someone's mind before they violate mine?" Peter replied. "I'm not buying it."
