Office hours [after the staff meeting]

Anakin headed towards his office with two cups of coffee (his was decaf, yes, yes, yes) and a couple of pastries squirreled away (but not for the squirrels). He hoped Peter hadn't been waiting too long.

Peter hadn't been. He had his own Friday things after all. "Hey."

"Afternoon," Anakin said with a small smile, holding out a cup. "Coffee?"

"...yes?" Peter replied, not sure if that had been a test.

"Take the cup of coffee," Anakin said with a roll of his eyes. "It's for you."

And he needed a hand free to get his keys out anyway.

"Oh! Right." Peter looked sheepish and took the coffee. "Thanks."

"You're welcome," Anakin grumbled, unlocking the door and walking in, flipping lights on with a wave of his hand as he walked near their general vicinity, and finally sitting down in his chair. "How was your week?"

"Cold, dark," Peter said as he followed Anakin in. "Yours?"

"Not as cold or dark," Anakin said smugly. "A benefit to living off the island."

"Where do you live?" Peter asked, curiously.

"An apartment in Georgetown," Anakin said. "My wife's a student there."

"So the commute's not so bad," Peter suggested.

"Not at all," Anakin said, "except for those times when the island decides to keep us all here, of course." He glared at the ceiling. "Which it better not do any time soon."

"I think you just jinxed it," Peter told him.

"It knows better than to mess with me," Anakin said.

It so didn't.

He shrugged. "I'm a little twitchy about being sure to be home on time. My wife's pregnant."

"Congratulations," Peter said with a smile. "Your first?"

"Technically, my third," Anakin said with a smile. "But I missed the fun parts of pregnancy with the twins. I was on the front lines of a war instead."

"It's amazing what living in Fandom does to a family tree, huh?" Peter replied. Which was stunningly ironic considering what the New York-based Petrelli family tree both looked and would look like.

Anakin laughed. "Yes. I've taught two grandchildren and the man who would grow up to teach the man who taught me to be a Jedi."

"It helps to not think about it too much," Peter said. "Just go with the flow."

"It certainly made planning a wedding a little brain-breaking on the non-Fandom members of my wife's family," Anakin said with a slightly evil grin. "I'm not sure her grandmother will ever get over being addressed as 'great-great-grandma.'"

"Is she from a place like Fandom?" Peter asked.

"She's from Connecticut," Anakin replied.

"So... no," Peter guessed.

"No," Anakin agreed. "The alien invasion at graduation came as a bit of a shock to her."

"See that's the kind of thing I'm hoping my mom doesn't find out about," Peter said.

"We told them it was for an action sequence in a movie," Anakin said. "Most of them bought it, if only because they really, really wanted to believe that's what happened."

"I'll keep that in mind," Peter said. "We're from New York so she's used to a little weirdness, but not this much weirdness."

"I'm used to a lot of weirdness, and this island still gives me pause," Anakin admitted. "How did your practices go this week?"

"They went?" Peter said, looking sheepish. "I couldn't detach from the invisibility."

"We'll keep working at it," Anakin assured him. "If you don't try to knock me out of my chair again, we'll call it progress."

"I suppose at least it's a positive that I'm doing it at all?" Peter said, trying to look on the bright side. "Not that I don't want better control."

Anakin smiled. "I've certainly had more frustrating students." He closed his eyes. "Ready to begin?"

Peter took a sip of his coffee and put it aside. "Ready."
