Office hours [all day]

Anakin was sitting in the center of the carpet on his floor, eyes closed, hands on knees, meditating.

His office was, once again, spotless, but he was having trouble finding any kind of serenity.

Soft music was playing and the door--also fixed--was about halfway open.

"I'm older than you, less old than this planet," Anakin said, rolling his eyes. "I'm also not old enough to be a grandfather, despite what this island keeps throwing at me."

"Grandfather?"

"Jaina Solo and Ben Skywalker are my grandchildren from different timelines," Anakin said, shaking his head ruefully.

"...I think I knew 'bout Jaina," she said, then perked up. "Ben too? He's awesome!"

Anakin beamed, pleased to hear that. "'Skywalker' isn't exactly like 'Smith' back home," he said.

That got a laugh. "I just didn't think 'bout it," she admitted sheepishly.

"They can't all be blessed with my amazing hair," Anakin teased.

"Amazing hair is important," she agreed, grinning. "And should be encouraged, yes."

"Maybe I should teach a summer workshop about it," Anakin mused.

"I'd totally sign up for it, if you did," Ino laughed. "Totally."

Both because it would amuse her, and because Ino, well, was fond of her hair.

"Maybe it would get Ben to cut off that Padawan braid."

"But it's cute!" she protested.

A beat.

"Padawan?"

"Jedi for apprentice," Anakin explained. "I had one of those braids until I was almost 23. Thirteen years is a looong time to have hair that stupid."

Ino blinked. "You were an apprentice for thirteen years? How long do Jedi train for?"

"In my day--and don't tell me how old that makes me sound--generally about twenty five years," Anakin said. "I got a late start. Jedi are working with some pretty potent power: they didn't want us heading out into the galaxy untrained."

"Wow." With another blink. "That's, like, wow. Twenty-five years."

Anakin nodded. "And people knew it, too. That's why they didn't tend to mess with us."

"I can't even imagine that," she said honestly. "That much time just in training? Wow."

"About, oh, ten years into it I'd had about enough," Anakin said. "But I never did learn the Jedi lesson of patience."

"And there's all different types of patience too." She nodded.

"Tactically, I could wait forever for the right moment," Anakin said. "In my personal life, I never really learned the same trick."

"It's not a very fun trick," she admitted. "Too much patience and everything gets boring."

"That was my old master," Anakin said with a smile. "He could sit in one place for weeks."
