"Rory?" Anakin called as he let himself in, "you won't believe the day I've had."

Meeting new students (and threatening them), seeing a grandson who was entirely too old...it had been busy.

And Jess? Well, it wasn't worth thinking about Jess until there had been some vodka consumed.

"I think she's looking on the island for now, but I'll ask," Anakin promised. He kissed her neck. "Though I like it just being the two of us. And Vladdie. And Bertie."

"The old lady downstairs called us adorable when I got the mail," she told him proudly.

"Did she?" Anakin grinned. "She's very observant."

"So tell me the other thing," she said, bracing herself.

"Vodka first," Anakin said, waving it over, along with two cups.

"That bad?" she asked warily.

"I wasn't particularly thrilled to see him, no," Anakin grumbled, holding out a cup to Rory.

"Him?" she repeated, her mind racing with who it could be. "It's not someone bad from home, is it? Your home. Like, Palpatine or something as a student."

Anakin blinked. "I hadn't even thought of that...now I look like a major overreactor." He leaned in to touch her forehead with his. "Jess is a student now, love."

She froze.

"Jess...Mariano?" she repeated slowly.

He nodded. "We weren't violently fond of each other," he said.

He paused. "Or violent!" he added quickly. He knew how Rory felt about people fighting over her.

"Is he, um, my Jess?"

God, what a weird thing to say.

Plus the added factor of it being a bizarre thing to ask one's husband.

A muscle in Anakin's jaw clenched, the only betrayal of how little he liked hearing that phrase.

"He said you were supposed to be younger when I showed him the wedding holo, so I think probably not," he said. "I don't like him."

"He's fine," she said automatically. "He's a good guy. He's just made some mistakes."

"He hurt you," Anakin said, frowning. "That's not just 'some mistake'."

"He's confused," she said simply, shrugging.

Anakin finished off his glass of vodka with a small grimace. "He's someone I'm sure I'm going to be seeing all the time because the island hates me," he complained. "Knowing he's confused won't really make me feel better."

"You already see Peter, don't you?" she pointed out. "Seeing him shouldn't affect anything."

"I didn't know what Jess looked like," Anakin said petulantly. "It's not like I was looking for pictures of the guy."

Oh, he was in a fabulous mood tonight.

"Good, since I've hidden them," she said.

Anakin recoiled like she'd slapped him, the hurt obvious in his eyes.

"I didn't think to get his number for you," he said coldly, digging his hands into the couch cushions and turning his face away. "My mistake."

"...Anakin." She stared at him. "Quit being a baby. Hi, idiot, I married you. Who do you think I'm going to stick with on this?"

A little bit of the tension left his shoulders. "You hid his photos," he told the floor.

"At Mom's house. I also have pictures of Dean there, and Logan and Bridge. Not hidden like they're secret -- hidden like 'Hey, let's not display the pictures of my exes for my husband who, let's face it, has some jealousy issues.'"

Now he felt really, really stupid. "Oh," he said in a tiny voice.
