Anakin was pacing the living room--he was tired of pacing in his office and the coffee shop had clearly been a bust--as he waited for Rory to arrive.

It's a world of laughter, a world of tears
It's a world of hopes, it's a world of fear
There's so much that we share
That its time we're aware
It's a small world after all...

Anakin ran his hands through his hair and shouted "SHUT UP!" at the ceiling.

Because that would work...

Rory had left immediately after her final, and as such arrived in good time. So she knocked on the door, because she was polite that way.

Anakin flung the door open and hugged her. "Hi."

"Hi," she murmured against his neck, hugging him back just as tightly.

"I have missed you," he murmured, still clinging. "Everyone in this town has turned into morons."

"How so?" she asked, kissing his cheek.

Anakin opened the door for her but didn't invite her inside. Newly remembered habits needed to be reinforced. "I ran into Luke and Jo out on patrol last night," he said grumpily.

Rory stepped in, not even noticing a lack of invitation. "What were they doing out? Did you tie Lukey up so he can't get out again?"

"I was pretty damn tempted," Anakin admitted. "Apparently they were looking for Angelus. Half the island was out there last night, or so it sounded. I'm thinking of selling signs that say 'yes, I am bait. Please eat me.' It'll make Angelus's life so much easier."

His face scrunched up in worry. "I can't protect people if they insist on doing stupid things."

Rory dropped her bag and reached up to clasp his face between both hands. "Anakin. Calm down."

"I don't know how," he practically wailed.

"You're not going to help anyone if you're all wound up," she murmured, stroking his hair. Taking care of him meant she could concentrate on something other than herself. "Tell me what to do."

Anakin sat down on the sofa, pulling her along with him. "You're here and safe. That's enough."

"What else?" she prompted, curling up close.

Anakin wrapped his arms around her and let out a long sigh. "Lie to me and tell me this can be fixed."

"It can, and that's not a lie," she said immediately.

Anakin nudged his nose against hers. "Tell me again?" he whispered.

"It's going to be fine," she whispered. "Promise."

It had to be.

Anakin kissed her like he wasn't planning on stopping.

Which Rory had expected. She kissed him back with just as much fervor, verging on frantic.

"Upstairs?" he murmured, pulling her closer.

"You've got time?" she checked, kissing and nipping her way along his neck. If repression and a chance to unwind a little were options, there was no way she was saying no. But she wanted to make sure he didn't have to patrol later.

"How else am I going to make sure you're tied to the bed while I'm gone?" he asked, only half-joking.

"You're not tying me up tonight," she murmured, biting lightly and skimming her hands along his chest. "I need to touch you."

Anakin nodded, nuzzling her neck. "No need to give the roommates a show," he decided, picking her up and heading for the stairs. "We have time."

"Yeah, former teachers. Don't really want to play exhibitionist," she murmured, kissing his neck as she looped her arms around it. "I'm totally making you my lackey later since you can levitate that bag for me."
