Anakin was in his office forming glitter solar systems.

It only looked like he was bored.

He'd tell you he was practicing Very Important Jedi Things.

"I am," she murmured, smiling. "I have the afternoon free, too. With any luck, Paris won't come home in a rage."

"If she does, you put her on the phone with me," Anakin said, eyes flashing. "You need a nap, not an inconsiderate Gamorrean-dating roommate."

"He's probably not a Gamorrean," she assured him.

"I'd hope not," Anakin said, smiling at her. "Paris probably couldn't deal with the drooling. Close your eyes."

Rory did. "Why am I closing my eyes?"

Anakin's voice had dropped into the tone he used just for her. "Because you're taking a nap," he said quietly, "and traditionally that happens with your eyes closed."

Rory sighed happily. "I like naps."

"I know," Anakin said, dorkfacing like a pro.

"You should tell me a story," she demanded sleepily.

"What kind of story?" Anakin asked, curling his hand a little more tightly around his phone.

"Happy one."

Anakin smiled. "Once upon a time there was a beautiful and brilliant princess named Lorelai who lived in the far off kingdom of Connecticut," he began.

"Oooh," Rory murmured, snuggling up against her pillow. "I like this story already."

"I figured you might," Anakin replied. "She was a bit of a bookworm and had to live with three, um, crazy roommates: a shrill girl who did crafts at three o'clock in the morning, a hyperactive but adorable flying puppy, and a naked guy."

He paused. "No one liked the naked guy very much."

"Naked guy's nice," Rory contributed, frowning.

"Not in my story he's not," Anakin insisted stubbornly. "Anyway, in the far off kingdom of Fandom, there was going to be a ball because there was a stubborn old, um, knight there and the people of his kingdom were tired of him moping around for no good reason."

That made her smile. "Ooooh."

Anakin smiled to see her smile. "So Princess Lorelai figured that she might as well go--not necessarily to see him, of course--and she found a beautiful dress, but she couldn't find shoes."

"Oh no!" she said, horrified.

"It was terrible, and Princess Lorelai was thinking of not going at all, even though her harpie of a roommate called her a drama queen for it." Anakin grinned. "But then a good fairy named...Aeryn...came with a pair of shoes, said 'don't ask, just wear them,' glared and then disappeared again."

"How nice of Aeryn the good fairy," Rory giggled sleepily.

"She'd lost a bet," Anakin told her with a small smile. "So Princess Lorelai raced down to Fandom in her golden...Prius to see all of her friends. And the grouchy knight she was much too good for."

"I think you might be wrong about that part," she replied, already dozing off.

"My story," he murmured softly. "So she was dancing with her friends and one of her shoes flew through the air and clocked the knight in the back of the head. And she was very adorable and embarrassed and he was completely ridiculous about her..." he glanced nervously at the phone to see if she was still awake.
