Rory arrived with a Vladdie on a leash and a bag over her shoulder.

She debated for a moment whether she should knock on the door, where a teacher might answer. That might be bad. That might be really, really bad.

So that would explain why there was a puppy hovering outside Anakin's window, yapping.

Anakin's head popped out the window a second later. "I don't have a braid any more," he teased. "You can't climb up."

"What if the others see me?" Rory replied plaintively.

"Then they'll see you," Anakin said, resting his head on the window sill. "They're not going to run in terror, love."

"Professor Next was my teacher," she replied, shaking her head.

Anakin looked hurt. "So you don't want to see me?"

"No, I do." She shifted from foot to foot. "Wow, it'd sure be handy if you knew how to levitate people or something, huh?"

He stared at her. "...seriously? You won't come in the front door like someone who's not sneaking around?"

"I'm not sneaking!" Rory protested. "..okay, fine, you have to come let me in."

"That was the plan," Anakin said, disappearing before she could see him roll his eyes.

A few moments later the front door opened. "Hi."

"Hi," she said. "I'm not sneaking. Sneaking was last year."

Some of the shadows lifted from his eyes. "I was worried."

"Let's go upstairs," she said, reaching for his hand with her free one.

Anakin linked his fingers through hers and clung just a little more tightly than he normally would as they went up the stairs.

"It's okay for Vladdie to be here?" she checked quietly, holding onto the thankfully quiet puppy.

"As long as he doesn't eat the dodo, it's fine," Anakin replied with a soft smile. "Force knows this house can handle strangeness."

He nudged his door open with his hip. It was clear he'd made an effort: there was a small television--obviously a refurbished something from the junk yard--, a new lamp from the same location, and a few candles stuck in different corners of the room.

He watched her expression, looking a little nervous.

"...wow," she breathed. "Anakin...you didn't have to go to any effort or anything."

"I live here," he said, blushing. "It's past time it looked like it. This...is home."

Mostly because she was with him, but he wasn't going to say it out loud.

"I like the candles," she offered. Vladdie was a bit clingy, on the other hand, though he hadn't started whining or anything.

Anakin smiled. "I made sure they didn't smell weird and everything," he said proudly, reaching over to scratch Vladdie's head.

"Good for you," Rory said, going on her toes to kiss his cheek. "I brought movies."

"Scary ones where you have to stay in my lap the entire time?" he asked.

Because if I move the scary things might get one of us," Rory agreed, nodding.

"And I'm a big chicken," Anakin said solemnly. "It's a known fact."

"And hey, little girls are the scariest," Rory said just as solemnly, holding up The Circle.
