Beach [late afternoon]

Anakin was lying on a secluded stretch of beach as he waited for Rory, enjoying the quiet of the water lapping at the shore.

Little Bunny Foo Foo
Hopping through the forest...

He jumped, then glanced around.

"That's not funny," he muttered.

There was a loud *CLANG* from somewhere off-camera in the distance.

...scooping up the field mice and bopping them on the head...

"Really not funny," he said, voice getting louder.

Fifteen minutes later, Anakin Skywalker had heard Little Bunny Foo Foo ten times and was about ready to kill something.

"Hiiii," Rory drawled when she finally did approach, dressed in beachy clothes with her shiny new bathing suit underneath. It's entirely possible that she'd actually gone back to her room after class to change and -- gasp -- put on a little makeup.

Not that this was actually a date.

That was Saturday, after all.

Anakin looked up at her and gave her a slow smile. "You're beautiful."

Rory blushed. "You could've just said hi back," she pointed out, smiling dorkily and plopping gracelessly down beside him.

"But I can say hi to anyone," he said. "I get looks if I tell other people they're beautiful."

"True," Rory said, and she was sooooo glad for her sunglasses, since this was the first opportunity she'd had to actually look at him like this, up close and without grease all over him. "So. How's life?"

"Not that different than when I saw you a few hours ago," he said with a small smile. "I talked with a few of the students after class, stopped at the bakery for pie, and now I'm here. Oh, and I'm getting sung at. It's bizarre."

Rory looked around. "Who's singing?"

"I don't know," Anakin pouted, "but it's very annoying."

I can't keep up, and I can't back down
I've been losing so much time...

"Oh, what the hell?" Anakin said.

"That's...weird," Rory said, looking around, puzzled.

"Do I look like a ballad sort of person?" Anakin asked the great unseen soundtrack...guy.

There was a pause.

Then:

We were drawn from the weeds...

"NO!"

We were brave like soldiers, falling down under the pale moonlight...

Anakin sulked. "I hate this place."

He smiled over at Rory. "Though I loved dancing with you at prom."

"Both years," she commented, and tentatively scooted closer.

Anakin gave a warning glance to the sky, then nudged his nose against hers.

"Hi," he said quietly.

The soundtrack obliged:

Wise men say, only fools rush in
But I can't help falling in love with you...

He sighed.

Rory laughed softly and looked up at the sky. "Baby steps!" she called at...whatever was doing the music.

Looking at you
and you are looking at me
and we both know what we want
Hmmm, so close to giving in....

Evidently the soundtrack thing did not understand about baby steps.

"So," Rory said, turning back to Anakin and ignoring the music. "I think I owe you something."

"Cookies?" Anakin said, nuzzling her cheek.

The soundtrack was getting impatient.

...too long, too late
Who was I to make you wait?
Just one chance, just one breath
Just in case there's just one left...

Anakin ignored it.

"Cookies were for the students," she said, smiling a little, reaching a hand out to his arm.

It's been awhile since I felt this feeling that everything that you do gives me
It's been so long since somebody whispered....

"Shut up and kiss me," Rory finished.

Anakin blinked at her for a moment, then smiled.

"Yes, ma'am," he said, cupping her head in his hands and giving her a very thorough hello kiss.

The soundtrack swelled dramatically. It had taken a turn toward the instrumentals, apparently.

Rory giggled into the kiss, scooting closer to return it and twine a hand into the curls she still wasn't used to.

Anakin let out a happy little sigh and deepened the kiss as he moved one of his hands down to rest on her waist.

"Missed you," Rory murmured between kisses, moving close enough to run her hands over his shoulders. "You're all...different now. Feel different. But the same."

"Is that a good thing?" he murmured, running his fingers up her side.

"It's a good thing," she said, kissing the underside of his jaw. "You're all...older. There are new things. Like your hair."

Anakin smiled as he closed his eyes. "I'm not growing the braid back," he said, nipping at the lobe of her ear.

Rory shivered in the warmth. "I don't want you to. It's just...new. You're all grown up. I realize that's an obvious thing to say but still. It's kind of staring me in the face."

He kissed a slow trail up the edge of her ear, then blew a breath of air across it. "I'm still me," he said softly.

The soundtrack slunk away, embarrassed by the terrible quality of Anakin's dialog.
