Office hours [Tuesday, September 5, all day]

Darth Vader was in his new, spotlessly clean and barren office.

He had a cup of coffee he couldn't drink and the list of students who would be in his class on Thursday.

He was in a mood.

Not that this was a dramatic shift from normal.

"Yes," Schrodinger said. "I think you have. I think they'll be very interested in you."

"This Captain of yours, you mean?"

"Him," Schrodinger said. "The Doc. And, above all, the Major."

"Interesting hierarchy," Vader commented. "Most beings in charge prefer to be Generals or Emperors."

"Oh, there are a couple of Colonels and Generals," Schrodinger said. "But they only delude themselves by thinking that they are in charge. The Major has been the Major for so long that changing his name would just make things confusing."

Vader's voice was as amused as it ever was. "I know his type."

"Do you really?" Schrodinger asked. "What is his type, then?"

"One that has made himself virtually indispensible, am I correct? Keeper of just enough knowledge that he won't share?"

Schrodinger laughed. "In a way... although if they believe he ever will share it, they are sorely mistakent. Their usefulness is running out. I don't know why the Major tolerates them to begin with."

"It's useful to have beings who aren't...quite as indispensible," Vader said. "They make for object lessons."

Schroginer grinned. "That makes sense," he said. "Would you like to meet them?"

"Your Major?" Vader pondered. "Yes."

"I have a feeling he'll want to meet you," Schrodinger said. "I'll ask him tonight. Bring you the answer as soon as I know."

Vader nodded, then turned back to the papers in front of him.

Sith Lords don't say thank you.
