Anakin opened his office door.

And stared.

Someone had redecorated.

Anakin stomped around the office examining streamers on the ceiling and paint on the wall, then the glitter-bestrewned Farrah Fawcett poster, and finally flounced over to sit in his chair.

With its pink boa.

He waved a hand and started up his little galaxy of stars, then picked up a pen that had been decorated with feathers--all of his pens had been decorated with feathers, what the hell?--and hoped no one visited today.

Though that didn't seem very likely.

"Really? That's so sweet," Jamie said not understanding the meaning. "I had no idea I was so loved."

Anakin gave him a confused look but decided not to break his delusional little bubble.

"How are your classes going?" he asked instead. It would be interesting to hear his perspective on it, after all.

Jamie is used to that look.

"Pretty good, I missed them all last week to go to outer space so I have make up work to do. Emma assigned me to make a cupcake cozy. I'm not even sure how to start that project," Jamie replied. "And I've only got thrown into detention twice this year. I must be slipping."

"You were in outer...John," Anakin said, piecing it all together. "Are you all right?"

"Perfectly fine," Jamie replied. "Had a little run-in with some Peacekeepers and before John was fixed he played a lot of mindgames with us. I think Aeryn was hurt the worse by all of it. You heard he put a student in the clinic, didn't you?"

Something dangerous flashed in Anakin's eyes. "I was the one who found her," he said.

"She's okay, right?" Jamie asked. "I haven't seen her since I got back."

Anakin reluctantly nodded. "He broke her nose," he said, "but she'll be fine."

"Good," Jamie said easing back into a chair. "I know he did a number on a few people. I'm just glad no one was permanently harmed because someone had a chip shoved in his head."

"If he had, all the 'chip in his head' in the galaxy wouldn't have saved him," Anakin said firmly. "And were very close a long time ago."

"Wasn't his fault," Jamie said raising an eyebrow. "You'd condemn someone because he wasn't in control of his own actions? He had no free will in the matter."

"It's an ethical quandary, isn't it?" Anakin asked. "I don't know the full story, of course," he said, and he was trying change that, "but if he asked for the chip, he has to bear at least part of the responsibility for what happened later. Doing terrible things to save a member of your family is still doing terrible things. All actions have consequences."

"Way I understand it? The chip was placed there against his will," Jamie replied. "But yeah... if that was the case? There's consequences to face."

Jamie paused for a second and shifted uncomfortably in his chair. "If you have a moment, there's an ethical quandary I'd like you to think about."

"Say a person is able to create a duplicate of himself any time he likes. Say that duplicate goes out and finds a life for himself. Does the creator have a right to reclaim that part of himself if that duplicate decides not to return? Return him to the fold so to speak? And is the creator also responsible for the duplicate's actions?"

Anakin mulled the question over. "I take it this strikes a little close to home," he said quietly. "I believe it comes back to free will. In my home galaxy, we were fighting a terrible war using clones based off of one warrior. Even though they all looked like him, they had their own personalities and experiences." Anakin frowned. "Their own souls, if you will. He couldn't be possibly be held accountable for their actions."

Well, that and he'd died, but Anakin didn't really think that mattered much.

"But I think your case might be different," he continued, frowning. "If the duplicates are truly a part of the creator, he has the right to reclaim them, and would bear the responsibility of what happened. It would be a bit like my saying I couldn't be held accountable for what my left hand did because it never really listens to me."

"Yeah. That's kind of what I thought," Jamie said with a slightly haunted look. "Just something that I've been thinking about lately since the trip."

Anakin leaned forward. "Anything you can put into words yet?" he asked quietly.

"Right before the beginning of the school year I had a problem with one of my duplicates," Jamie explained then gave Anakin a knowing look. "You might remember that."

"Anyhow... that duplicate? He's still around in my head. And if that duplicate ever gets out and gets the better of me..."

Jamie shrugged. "You get the idea."

"Everyone has a dark side," Anakin said quietly. "Yours is just a little more...literal...than most. You defeat it the same way the rest of us do--by refusing to give in to what he suggests. By clamping down on the emotions that would allow him to have the upper hand." He shrugged. "By being stronger than he is. You're the creator. You have to maintain the control."

"Yeah. Most people's dark side don't actually try to kill you and take your place," Jamie agreed. "Control on the other hand... Well I think I still have that. It's just that right now there are dozens of duplicates of myself out there. Like me. And if one of them has that dark side."

Jamie gave Anakin a grin. "Well even if they don't have a dark side. Tell me that's not a scary thought."

"I think it keeps Deadpool awake at night," Anakin said with a returning grin.

"Bea Arthur keeps Deadpool awake at night," Jamie said with a slight shiver. "And that's just... I'm not going there."

"Ew," Anakin said, wrinkling up his nose. "But he gave Vader this poster," he said, pointing to the glittery Farrah Fawcett behind his desk. "Maybe Bea Arthur's just an endearing twitch?"

"Deadpool is from my world. Or at least a world like mine," Jamie said. "Trust me when I say that Deadpool is one large endearing twitch. With ammunition."

Anakin grinned. "My kind of guy."

"You have a think for Bea Arthur too?"
