He was very interruptable.

Anakin smiled. "There's a group of rebels who hid out on a planet made entirely of ice who might agree with you," he said.

"Ice? Ice is good," Katara agreed, smiling back. "But then I grew up on the South Pole. So I'm biased."

Anakin waved his hand and the ten thousand lights disappeared, replaced by a desolate planet rotating around two stars.

"I grew up here," he said with a shrug. "So I'm a big fan of water too. It was a rarity."

"Like Luke," she said, looking at the poor barren planet closely. "He didn't believe me you could play in the snow."

Anakin smiled wistfully. "It took me a while to discover that myself. You're friends with my son?"

"I think so," she said. She glanced over at Anakin. "Okay, so this is probably being too curious, but is it odd having a son who's not very much younger than you?"

Anakin smiled. "No, it's a good question. It's...a little strange. I hardly know him, really. Our timelines hadn't exactly matched up."

"Oh, that makes sense." Katara had been at FH long enough to accept the explanation at face value. "I thought my brother had gone crazy at first because he remembered things I didn't. But he's just from the future."

Anakin nodded. "Something like that," he said. "Your brother's here?"

She nodded. "He just came this winter too."

"But from the future," Anakin said, nodding. "This place makes your brain hurt, huh?"

She grinned at him. "Just a bit, yeah. As long my Gran Gran doesn't show up as my age or something, I think I'll survive."

Anakin snickered. "I look around every now and then waiting to see an old familiar face, yes," he said. "If my old master showed up as a student...it could be awkward."

Katara's eyes widened with glee at the thought of her master showing up as a student. She'd teach him to think that women were no good at bending. "You never know! It could be fun too."

"Things ended...badly...between us," Anakin said carefully. "And he was unbearably stuffy as a youngling."

"Oh, I'm sorry," she said immediately, worried that she'd been too casual. But a bit of a smile still peeked out. "You have to admit that any stuffiness would be beaten out of him here." Katara paused. That certainly wasn't the case for Zuko. "Maybe."

Anakin smiled back. "I don't know," he said slowly, clearly teasing. "I think Obi-Wan was born with a lightsaber up his..." he coughed. "I mean, he was always very concerned about following the rules."

She made a valiant effort not to giggle, her eyes dancing with suppressed laughter. "So he wouldn't benefit from some time with little tiny penguins or people turning into strange versions of themselves?"

Anakin burst out laughing, the first time in a very, very long time he'd done that.

"He loved the gremlins as an adult," he finally managed to say.

Katara grinned. "From the stories I've heard, I can't imagine why someone wouldn't," she said dryly.

"I might've sent a box of them home," Anakin said, all innocence. "They were a big hit at the Temple."

And she couldn't help giggling a lot at that. "You probably received a very nice thank you card with a big basket of chocolates in return."

"I think those got lost on their way here," Anakin decided, eyes sparkling with mirth.

"That's too bad," she said, still snickering. "I'm sure the sentiment was there though. It's the thought that counts, right?"
