33 Apocalypse Avenue [early evening]

Anakin was on the couch.

Sulking.

And tossing his long blond hair over his shoulders.

And sulking some more.

Like his week hadn't been weird enough--now he'd developed boobs and an interest in watching reruns of Doctor Phil's advice program.

Life sucked.

"Can I interview you for the paper?"

...so much for being relaxed.

Anakin immediately tensed up. "About what?" he asked carefully.

"Calm down. About being a teacher here," she said, knotting the elastic around the end of the braid. "And it's with me, so I'll helpo you spin it. I almost gave you to Angela."

Anakin immediately pulled the braid over his right shoulder and gave it a yank.

"I trust you," he said finally, then smiled. "How is Angela? I haven't seen her in forever."

"She's good," Rory replied. "I told her to visit you and tried to...explain. I don't know the official story, so you might have to correct what I said."

Anakin nodded. "Thank you," he said softly. "I don't like making you lie."

"I'm not all that good at it," she said. "You need to tell people the truth, but on your own time."

Anakin nodded, eyes sad. "I'm telling Sam Carter tomorrow," he said.

"Good. Sam was very good to me when you were...um, gone, and Luke was there," Rory said. "She deserves the truth."

Anakin nodded. "I have no idea how she'll take it," he said. He gave Rory a small smile and his braid another yank. "But John smiled at me in class this week. Maybe I'm not completely hopeless."

"Of course you aren't," Rory said softly, smiling gently.

Luke curled his feet up under him on the sofa and watched with a small smile on his face, content to be ignored.

"Faithful didn't seem so sure," Anakin said.

"Faithful made fun of me when I was in mourning," Rory replied. "Faithful likes to kind of push us when we're being mopey."

Anakin's eyes narrowed. "Faithful did what?"

"I don't really want to talk about it," Rory said, sighing. "He wasn't unkind. It's just that I don't like thinking about that."

He was a girl, right? He could get away with a little hand holding.

He reached out towards Rory. "I'm sorry."

She squeezed the very unusually small hand in hers. "Eh. It's okay, I got through it."

There was at least one person in the room who knew exactly how much she was lying about the easiness of that period of her life.

Luke gave her a Look.

"It wasn't okay," he told his father.

Anakin's grip on her hand tightened slightly. "I know."

Rory glared at Luke. "I know it wasn't okay, but it's done and we don't have to talk about it now."

Luke glared right back, an expression that looked very comfortable on his new face. "He deserved to know," he said.

Rory bit her lip and turned back to Anakin. "Fine. The weeks after you left were the unhappiest and most confused I have ever been in my entire life. I cried all the time and I hid in my room and I barely slept or ate. Luke helped. Are we all happy now?"

Anakin looked absolutely stricken as he clung to Rory's hand still.

"What did you expect?" Rory asked, looking down at their hands. "That I'd throw a party when I found out you were dead?"
