33 Apocalypse Avenue [early evening]

Anakin was on the couch.

Sulking.

And tossing his long blond hair over his shoulders.

And sulking some more.

Like his week hadn't been weird enough--now he'd developed boobs and an interest in watching reruns of Doctor Phil's advice program.

Life sucked.

"It shows," she said dryly. "Sweetie, what did you do to your head?"

"I don't know," Luke whined. "I tried to get it to stay up like Leia does, but it fell down so I knotted it up and Tori told me that was wrong and then Jude braided it but it fell out on the way here."

He looked very woeful.

Rory sighed. "Want me to try? I have bobby pins and elastics in my bag, I think."

Luke nodded, looking ridiculously grateful. "You won't mind? It keeps falling into my eyes."

"Want it in buns like Leia or just pulled back like mine or what?" Rory asked, gesturing to her own French braid. She looked over at Anakin. "Do you want me to do yours, too?"

"Like Leia, please," Luke said promptly, shifting a little closer.

Anakin wasn't as quick to respond.

He leaned awkwardly against the sofa, lost in old memories.

"She's good at braids," he finally said.

Rory bit her lip and began to twist half of Luke's hair over his ear. She secured it with a pin, and carefully said, "Well, yes, I wear braids a lot. I'm wearing one now."

"I haven't had one in years," Anakin replied, shifting a little closer.

He smiled at Luke. "When I was being trained, the Padawans wore very specific hairstyles. Short hair except for a ponytail in the back, then a braid behind the right ear."

Luke smiled. "Rory showed me pictures. It was...quite a look."

"She showed you...oh, that's right," Anakin said. "We can get your hair cut like that if you'd like."

He was teasing, but it was kind of hard to tell.

Luke went pale. "I'm fine," he said quickly.

Rory slanted her eyes at Anakin. "Did you ever dye it purple after all?" she asked, securing Luke's hair and moving to the other side.

"There wasn't time," Anakin said with a small smile. "I was knighted and then Obi-Wan and I were back out on another mission almost before I could blink."

"I dyed Lane's hair violet once," Rory noted, pinning up the last of Luke's hair. "Better, Lukey?"

"I can see again!" Luke said joyfully, giving Rory a hug. "Thank you."

"You're welcome!" Rory said. "You can walk back with me when we go. I have an umbrella, and you're all wee and tiny."

Luke scowled. "Parker called me cute. I wasn't amused."

"Your sister is a very cute girl," Rory answered reasonably. "Anakin, do you want me to do anything to keep your hair out of your face?"

Anakin chewed on his lower lip for a moment before nodding a bit shyly. "If you wouldn't mind?" He blushed.

Rory patted the space beside her that wasn't occupied by Luke. "What do you want me to do with it?"

Don't say braid, please don't say braid...

Anakin sat down, leg twitching a little nervously. "Not what you did to Luke, please," he said. "How about a braid?" He smiled. "I bet I'll look better than Pip."

"Like mine?" Rory asked, her heart skipping a beat. "Okay."

She carefully lifted Anakin's hair off his neck, and began a careful, steady French braid at the crown of his head.

Anakin tried to keep his expression neutral but the corners of his mouth kept twitching up.

"You're good at this," he commented.

"You said that already," Rory said quietly, brushing her hand over Anakin's ear to snag a stry lock of hair. "I wear my hair like this like three days a week. I've had some practice."
