Anakin decided that going for drinks with his teaching buddy again was probably not the best plan, especially since radio had let him know Jaina had talked to Jane and there were probably any number of questions she had for him now.

So he headed for the beach and only realized once he got there that 1) he hated sand 2) if she killed him here no one would find him and 3) the squirrels had erected some kind of podcasting setup to record him in more detail.

He got rid of that part immediately, not feeling remotely bad to give them a good Force nudge to find anywhere else to be. Then he found a good rock to brood on while he waited.

Oh, there were a lot of questions she had to ask, it was true. But right now she could totally focus on approaching this conversation in a mature, adult way.

And not just repeating the word 'grandmother?' in varying pitches.

"Hi," she said, then looked around at the real dramatic set up there. "Is this a spot you come very often?"

It was cinematic.

Well, he had an aesthetic to maintain. "Since I was a student here, actually," Anakin said, glancing around. "It's a good place to think."

Yeah, Jane was just going to replace the word 'think' with 'brood' because she was well used to dramatic men.

Which was why she nodded and didn't say it. But it was probably obvious with that Force thing. Or just the expression on her face.

Oh no, was it the same expression on his ex? former? wife's face?

"It's nice?" she ventured instead of letting that linger in her brain.

Yes, he was familiar with that look too, even though he was more used to the 'why are you like this' look, followed by the smile.

"Pull up a rock," he said with a tiny smile. "Or I can pull one up for you. My teacher was a big fan of rock-based training."

Jane graciously gestured for him to show off with his fancy, psychic powers. "Best for me to not get the cape dirty. If it can get dirty."

Anakin waved his hand and a chair-sized rock came floating down the beach to settle near his. "There," he said, smiling again. "Unless you'd like a snowman out of rocks?"

"You had that planned, didn't you?" Jane had to say. Just had to say.

Look, joking put off the serious conversation that was needed here.

"Well, I have spent a lot of time looking at these rocks over the years," Anakin said.

Jane nodded in understanding as she took a seat on the rock, careful of the cape. She was getting better at not just sitting on it!

"So," she said slowly. "I talked to your granddaughter. You look pretty young for a grandfather, by the way."

Anakin went a little tense despite knowing this had to be coming. "Thank you. Time works differently here."

Would be prefer a porg run in to break the tension? Would he?

"And she mentioned that I happen to look like her grandmother," Jane continued on bravely.

That was a long, awkward pause right there, yep.

"You do," he said to the water finally.

"Little awkward," Jane said, powering on through it as best she could. She managed to deal with way too much of the Norse pantheon to balk in the face of this, after all.

"She wore capes, too," Anakin said with a little smile. "But she was shorter and not as blonde."

Jane folded her hands on her lap. "Normally, I am too. But that probably doesn't help, does it?"

Anakin huffed out a breath. "Really?"

"Brunette," she admitted. "The hair is magic too."

"Magic hair is fairly new to me," Anakin admitted. "All Thors must be blonde?"

"I guess? I never really thought about it," she replied with a frown.

"Strangely specific magic," Anakin mused.

Focusing on the Jane things instead of the Anakin things? Hell yes, 100 percent on board with this.

Rude and counterintuitive to the adult conversation happening here, Anakin.

"That's Mjolnir," Jane replied, looking at the hammer before setting it down on the sand with a thud that implied it had just compacted the sand there in warning that Jane didn't notice at all.

But on the other hand: not having to talk about his weird actions over the last week!

"Your magic hammer prefers blondes?" Anakin said.

Jane shot him an amused little look. "Something like that."

She took a breath to fortify herself before continuing on. "Was I... part of why you were so upset last week?"

Anakin gave a shrug. "Some of it," he admitted. "Not nearly all."

"Well, I'm sorry for it," Jane said. "Believe me, I get at least a little bit about why it's... difficult. Or hard to tell someone without making it weird on a first meeting."

She got real lucky in Raiden being very chill about those things.
